30th Birthday Wish List Because We Can’t Be 29 Forever

I don’t mean to sound cliche but as I sat down this past weekend to write this post, I honestly had a hard time thinking of anything I really needed for my birthday.  Trust me there are things that I want but that list is pretty slim as well (remember need vs want?).  I feel like 30 is a big birthday and you have to buy one high end ticket item because then every time you look at it you will remember what momentous occasion went with it. The problem is my high end ticket items are not coming at a good time….because like you know life.  I’m also a planner and everything seems to be always due at once like my every 6 month car insurance (hooray happy birthday it always seems to fall on) oh and while we are at it lets add the yearly tag renewal and the ever daunting hanging over my head……the dreaded I need new back tires because the backs are bigger than the fronts so you can’t rotate them.  As I said before….life.  However let’s just say I didn’t care about those things and didn’t have a wedding in 8 months that I have been saving for.  Now let’s get into that birthday wish list as the countdown continues to July 5th

These Sunglasses

I have them already in green and I seriously am just as obsessed with them now as I was when I bought them two Summers ago. I mean you can have no makeup on your mug throw those on and suddenly you are completely put together.  Case in point….no makeup, dirty hair in a topknot but see the glasses pull it all together.

I have had my eyes on the rose gold ones for some time because let’s be honest looking at life through rose colored glasses is just better right?

Thin Stacking Rings

I don’t wear eyeshadow like ever so I am quite the connoisseur of all things black eyeliner.  This has been on my radar for quite some time but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.  Maybe I will…..it would be perfect for all those fun birthday dinners coming up right?
While we are talking makeup 
I am such a sucker for mini’s because in all honestly I usually never go through them and if I do then I know it’s time to buy the full size.  The Stila eyeshadow is perfect for adding to the inner rim of your eye (Blake Lively style).  Nars Laguna (cult classic bronzer).  I’ve been wanting to try that Josie Maran Coconut watercolor cheek glee. Urban Decay setting spray that I mentioned in this post, it’s seriously amazing.  The Marc Jacobs mascara is a gel and I want to compare it to my favorite Perfekt mascara mentioned here.  So basically I just convinced myself I’m buying it before it sells out because that always happens with these amazing gifts.  Oh and I really like the tote.  All of this for $45???  Definitely scooping it up.

These Leggings From Lululemon
These leggings make me irrationally angry.  I see them online and I hesitate.  I can’t use my being an instructor discount (trust me it saves like the tax) online only in stores.  Naturally my store never has them.  So I hesitate for a hot second and then I go back online and they are sold out. Then I go on ebay and everyone is charging like twice as much and I get very stabby when that happens especially since I had them in my cart the last time they came back available online but then talked myself out of it…..I think I rationed like my car insurance was coming due or something.  Any of my Canadian girls I’ll send you my address….just saying ;-)
Ballet Flats

I just got my first pair and honestly they have been on my feet every since I took them out of the box. Full review to follow but I finally completed that shopping cart purchase.  It was so hard to narrow it down to one.  They seriously blow the Tory Burch Reva flats out of the water in the comfort factor.  Now I want them in the ballet pink because I mean look how perfect they would go with everything.

In every color they make please.  Full review in this post because honestly nothing holds a candle to it.

Really anything by Maaji I’m not picky.  I’d also like the Tone it Up Girls body in that suit if we are really being specific.
These earrings
I wear studs everyday and I have been eyeing gold knot earrings but could never find the right size (or price for that matter). They are half off!  I think these are moving to top of the list, just above the Haruni : pair i’ve been looking at for ages that are, admittedly, a bit more of an investment. But are they ever gorgeous.
Giftcards
Don’t worry I won’t be offended unless it’s from your significant other then yes I would be.  My mother still tells the story of that one fateful birthday of hers when a gift card was given….. I’m not picky the usual suspects will work Nordstroms, Sephora, F21, Tory Burch, Target….Publix because isn’t that the best when you find a random $25 gift card buried in your wallet from like some work raffle you won….Yahtzee!  Thanks for buying my dinner and those BOGO bottles of Pinot Noir.

A girl can dream right?
I’d want them in nude because they would be more versatile.  When I mean versatile I’d wear them around my house and then put them back in the box hahahaha.
Honestly though all these things are materialistic but don’t get me wrong totally fun.  The number one thing I am so excited about is being able to spend this momentous birthday in a city that I love celebrating with my favorite person and love of my life.
What things are on your radar right now?  Tell me the places I need to go to in Chicago.  I already have quite the list going but I’ve never said no to a rooftop bar but I want to go to one where I can see the fireworks from it (not to be too picky or anything). My husband and I were just talking about our 30th birthdays coming up, and both decided we didn’t really *need* anything. You are so right on there being a difference between need and want!

  3. First of all how did I not know that you don’t wear eye shadow?! I think the Roman Numeral Necklace is the perfect 30th birthday present – it’s on my list as well!! I want some Tieks so badly and now that I know their comfort level they are staying firmly on the list and hopefully will be a buy soon! That watch…oh I want the silver version of that one…LOVE!!   6. ahhh you have a good list girl! i think i have most of these items ha. tieks – i die over and have 4 pairs now (even got one for my mom). the lulu’s? i need them in my life but i’m sure i’ll never find them too. thin stack-able rings = always on my fingers (i got mine on etsy for super cheap). yes we can just say we have similar style. ps get the sunglasses. sunglasses are ALWAYS a good idea. i’m rambling now :) xo

  8. I love those Ray Bans. I never wear eyeshadow either! I can’t do black eyeliner though because I’m naturally pale with dark hair and it just looks scary on me. I stick with a khaki shade. XO

  9. First, I totally feel you on the car insurance. Ours is always due ON my birthday! Second, I think my big 30th birthday gift to myself this year is going to be a Goyard tote – I completely agree with the idea of getting a big gift for a big birthday! And I’m excited to hear you love the Tieks – they always look so comfortable but I just can’t pull the trigger on a pair.

  11. I love bar necklaces lately, and those are really cool. I also like stackable rings but I have small, childsized hands so anymore than 2 and it’ll look like the rings are taking over my fingers.

    30 really isn’t so bad. I remember it like it was yesterday if yesterday was 7 years ago.

If you are coming to Chicago one of the best places to watch the fireworks from is one of the boat cruises, it is beautiful and if you’ve never seen the skyline from the water at night, it is a definite must! Love getting to try out minis, I’m like you, it either takes me forever to go through the full product or I never do!

  24. Loooove this list. Those stacking rings are so cute! And those Lululemon leggings… ugh I die. I’ve actually never bitten the bullet for Lululemon because I’m terrified of drinking the Kool-Aid and then going broke because I spent all my money on yoga pants, so for now I just admire them from afar :)

That Marc Jacobs eyeliner looks intriguing – I’ve also been hearing a lot of good things about the Kat Von D liquid eyeliner pen, too. I’m jealous you have a pair of Ray Ban aviators – I have aviators from Coach, but I feel like they just aren’t the same.

  27. I want the Ray-bans bad!!! I have silver mirrored aviators that I wear all the time and you are right… love that I can go with just a swoop of lip gloss and look “done”. Oh and nude Louboutins… yes please… like no other shoes would really be necessary if I had those!

  37. YES to wearing the Loubs around the house and then putting them back in the box haha. Those puppies are way too pretty (and pricey!) to risk to dog poop and gum on sidewalks. Great list. Hope you get it all and more – you’re only 30 once, remember to remind Mark ;)

Even though we’re only 3 hours away from Chicago, I’ve only been a few times. My favorite thing we’ve done is do the architectural river boat cruises. That’s all I got though!

  48. I tried asking for Ryan Gosling for my 30th birthday in May. Didn’t work. Also, have you tried the L’Oreal Glossy Stains? They’re a dupe for YSL, which I love, but this girl cannot be dropping that much dough on that many glosses (though I can dream). Happy early birthday! 30’s pretty rad so far, you’ll love it.

  50. Ooh I’ve been eyeing some Tieks, they’re expensive but I hear so many people give them rave reviews. For the amount that I wear my Revas it might be worth the investment not to have to go through the lengthy pains to break in another pair. The ones I was looking at were Pewter I think – they’d go with everything and I wouldn’t need to be paranoid about them getting dirty right away!

  55. Such a fabulous wish list. I’d run out this instant and get those Ray Bans! Did you have to have yours adjusted when you first got them. I think mine are a little loose…I’m trying to figure out if this can be resolved.
