Seems totally logical no?
A laptop that can’t move. Oh and if you happen to knock out the power cord in the middle of writing your post and the whole thing shuts off. Then you realize it’s 10:30 and you have to be up at 5 to teach a completely full Barre class.
What would you have done?
Me a few months ago…..the Type A/OCD/Perfectionist would have thrown a fit and then cursed myself for not getting it done earlier…..like over the weekend like I was suppose to. Then stayed up for as long as it took to get it done….make it perfect. However this newer wiser self calmly shut the computer, gave Mark a quick kiss and said I was going to bed. Then relished in the fact I was going to get 7 hours of sleep on the night before I was teaching an early am class.
As I was leaving Barre that next morning after an amazing high energy class this song came on.
I put the windows down, sunroof open and jammed out on the way enjoying the early morning sun and wind in my hair. It was one of those simple happy moments.
This month starts my 6 month countdown till the wedding.
I got to work and opened an email from the College I am an adjunct faculty member at making sure they had it right that I agreed to taking on 7 credit units of teaching this upcoming Fall semester.
It wasn’t an error. I had agreed to that insanity.
I wrote in my planner the extra Pure Barre classes I agreed to pick up over the next few weeks.
I then noticed I had a Doctors apt and then meeting at the college after that and I had to meet the cable guy from 6-8 to turn off my cable (side note very liberating).
So I guess the whole moral of the story is I absolutely love staying busy, multitasking and doing it all but sometimes you just need to take that time for yourself. Go to the beach and catch up with your girlfriends, close your computer and get those extra hours of sleep. Pour a glass of wine, sit end to end on the couch with your favorite person and catch up on your week without your computer on your lap, iPad nearby or your phone in hand scrolling through Instagram.
Protect that mental health. Be ok with saying you won’t be able to make that extra event, that middle of the week dinner. I am a firm believer in saying no to something that will add that additional layer of stress on your already overly scheduled and stretched thin self. That is the beauty of the whole getting older and wiser thing right?
Last, I should also mention surround yourself with loving people who help ease that stress and agree to be home for the cable guy and family who have helped planned your whole wedding down to the flower girls headbands. I couldn’t do it without everyone of them.
How do you keep yourself organized? What do you do when you are feeling overwhelmed? What is the first thing that gets cut out of your schedule when you are stretched thin? I hope everyone is having a fabulous week! xoxoxo

This makes me feels so much better about my lack of blogging lately. Sometimes I feel bad about being on my laptop for an hour or two a night doing blogging things. Lately Scott and I have just been enjoying some time together in the evenings. I’ll be back for your favorites tomorrow though ;)

Yes to all of this. Some days I wonder what the heck Im thinking. I have my regular job, I tutor, Im doing my masters, I blog. Like freak I need a second dammit! You have six months till your wedding! Take some time to enjoy it girlie :)

I use to be so type a about my blog and making sure a post happened 5 days a week on top of everything else. While I am not writing as many blog post as I would like to lately it feels so wonderful to not feel stress of having to do it. Taking a step back and time for yourself is so needed sometimes!

So true. Sometimes it´s so hard to put down the stupid phone, it´s like a damn magnet that keeps inching to be checked every 5 mins (i blame instagram)….
Anyway, I was never very strict in posting for my blog, but now I feel even less so because I´m doing so many good things for myself, amen to relaxing!
Kerry @ Till Then Smile Often says
It can all get to be too much, and I have to remind myself to sit down, take stock in everything I have going on and what I can count out or make more efficient. Sometimes things don’t make the cut and get eliminated entirely. Saying no is so hard but add too much is not good so something you just have to say it.
BLovedBoston says
Bravo for just saying no!! I tend to say yes to way too much during the week and I don’t love getting home late on weeknights because I feel like I just don’t relax before getting back to work!! I try to focus on what’s important (easier said than done)…then there are days I feel like I don’t do enough! Always a catch 22 with me haha!
MarlaJan says
It took my getting really sick and having to leave work to get me to take a step back, and realize I don’t have to do ALL THE THINGS! I was in the same boat, working full time, school, being Judy Joiner with committees at CHOP, social life, gym, yada yada yada. You know the drill. I’ve definitely changed my outlook, and don’t even get the feeling of impeding doom when I see the number “217” at the top of Bloglovin feed, anymore. You have to take time for you, it’s imperative. Love this post! And that blue dress!!!!

6 months?! Such an exciting time! Hmm, I run around like a chicken with my head cut off until I’m so stressed I want to cry…haven’t found a cure for that one yet. ;) I think the best thing I’ve always been told is to just say “no.” Which eeeeeeeveryone always says, so why can’t eeeeeveryone just do it already? Seriously, so hard sometimes. Happy Almost Friday!
Karly @ Miss in the Midwest says
Good for you, girl! Everybody needs a little “me” time, especially in this day with all the technology, multiple jobs, etc. I definitely could learn a lesson or two from this post!
Pamela {Sequins and Sea Breezes} says
You are one busy girl! I don’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed every once in awhile. Heck, I feel overwhelmed on a regular basis and I don’t do half of what you do! Sometimes you just need to take a break. YAY for your wedding being 6 months away! I can’t wait to see all the pics, your engagement pics are gorgeous!

I’ve had those days before, where it’s just go go go!!! And I agree, I enjoy being busy, because it makes the down time so much more enjoyable! Way to go, btw, you get that extra sleep :)! xoxo
oh and 6months…weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
B @ The Sequin Notebook says
Like you, I tend to keep a jam-packed schedule (and I wouldn’t have it any other way), but every now and then it just gets too overwhelming and I need some time for myself. I am totally with you on saying no to things that will cause an extra layer of stress…not only do those things usually make me tired and cranky, but they make the other things in my life less enjoyable because of the added stress! SO not worth it!
Caitlyn {Home Sweet Ruby} says
I don’t know how you manage to fit so much in to your days!! And to teach college courses on top of it!? Amazing! I have definitely slowed down blogging and with social media because it can consume SO much time and it takes away from my time with my husband. It feels good to say no to things, even if you do like to stay busy, you can only do so much! Enjoy this time planning your wedding and try to soak everything in, it goes fast!
Caroline Fleenor says
I admire you for how much you do every day, you’re a superstar. It took me a LONG time to say no, or to not accommodate everyone else every time. Just remember that this is your life and its OK to do what will make you happy. Whenever I’ve felt overwhelmed, I just get up and take a walk and then go back to whatever I was doing. Or wine helps. Haha. :-)
The Pink Growl says
I love the moral of this story! And it’s so true and sometimes much needed not busy time is just what the doctor ordered.
Jillian says
danggg you are busy!! i like to write lots of to-do lists to keep myself organized. it feels so satisfying to cross something off a list xo jillian – cornflake dreams
Kristen says
fabulous post lovely! seriously, i am not even a quarter busy compared to you, but i agree, sometimes you just need you time. a few months ago, i was pumping out a post every day, wouldnt miss a confessions or a friday faves / 5 on friday post. the only reason I am posting every day now is because i got so much done on the weekend, but i’m sure it’ll die down soon when i decide to sleep in or go to bed early. i have been thinking lately that i’m far too lazy more than I am busy, and I used to love being busy. I need to make myself do more.
Anyway. I hope you enjoy this planning time, I hope it doesnt get more stressful for you like it does for other brides to be, I think you’ll be able to handle it ;) more wine, more beach time, more sleep ;)

YIKES! So much going on! You look so freaking stunning, lady!!

I say no. A lot. And I don’t feel bad about it. I can’t please everyone and it is crucial that I maintain self-care.
Elise @ High Heels and Glittering Eyes says
Always good to be reminded of. Sometimes you just can’t do it all at once.
Tami says
Girl you are probably one of the busiest people I can think of, I don’t know how you keep it all together! But if you can do it, I guess the rest of us can. I’m still learning to say NO, because when I do it feels so good
Nichole @ casadecrews.com says
Amen! I have a bad time with balance but the last two nights I just WAS. No plans, no blog, no phone. It was good for my soul :)
Nadine Lynn says
My goodness girlie, you are busy!!!! You make me look like the laziest person ever! Sometimes you really do just need to shut it all down though and just chill….don’t forget to chill!

girl you are so busy. how do you do it?!? ps – those pictures.. breathtaking!
Courtney W. says
Oh, I feel like this has been the story of my life recently! For me, I give up on keeping the house tidy, which is probably insane to a lot of people. But when I get overwhelmed with work, I suddenly become okay with the piles of mail on the kitchen counter and the stack of shoes next to the door. It doesn’t make me a bad person, right?!
Nadia @ The View is Beautiful says
This post actually came at the perfect time. I have been so stressed out the past few days with having to rebook our entire vacation a week before we are supposed to leave, to having so much work stuff and blog stuff to do before I go, it’s good to put it all in perspective and remember to breathe. I’m learning that rescheduling things isn’t the end of the world – you do what you have to do and it all works out in the end (hopefully)!
Shelby / Recent Somethings says
Your day was insane. And I would promptly chug wine once home ha. Busy – to a certain degree – I can do. Plans one night and not the next is how I try to keep from going crazy. But hey, more power to ya lady!
Jen says
Could not agree more with saying no to commitments sometimes and making time for you! I read this article in the Everygirl this week (love that pub) about “growing old with yourself” and it is so so true!
Glad you were able to relax with you friend at the beach :) the beach cures all in my mind!

Love this! Every new year we choose a word that our year is going to be about- this year it was “peace”, so I have learned to say NO to lots of things, especially if they’re going to disrupt my year of peace!
and I LOVE this song!!

Girl, I feel no guilt in telling people no. I am a pure bred biotch when I feel like I’m not getting enough me time and when I don’t get enough sleep. I just can’t do it.
Julie @ Just the Joy's says
Okay. I just typed a fucking paragraph (literally) to your great logic and now I feel like that stupid computer senario and I’m about to throw a fit! (*&#!*(&#)!(@)!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
alyssa says
This, yes. I love to be busy too and I actually get anxious when I don’t have things on my to do list and then I start like making random things up just so I have *something* on the list… but every once in a while I have to force myself to just have one afternoon with nothing to do and just actually relax, take on NO tasks, don’t schedule myself to be anywhere, and just be a human being.
Meghan Gilling says
I’m a huge advocate in the just take time for yourself mantra!! The first thing to go on my to do list when I’m over loaded is chores or grocery shopping, both of which I detest. Sometimes it just can’t all be done and I’m not even nearly as busy as you (single girl with 2 jobs a blog and that’s it) so I truly admire how you balance it all! I’m the same way though, I like to be busy and scheduled! Congrats on 6 months from the wedding!!
Xoxo

Sounds like you’re getting yourself into quite the groove. So great! I always need to let myself check out a bit when I start getting overwhelmed.
Ally Harding says
I always think you’re superwoman for doing it all! I swear you have more than 24 hours in your day! I’ve started blogging less because I don’t want it to take away from my personal life. I used to stress about posting every single day and now I’ve learned to post when I can and comment on blogs when I can. Blogging is supposed to be fun not a second, or in your case 3rd or 4th job!

i’m like you in that I love being busy, as long as I am organized. Right now I work full time, go to school online at night, run my blog, started a small side business and work out regularly. I love it. Doing nothing makes me go crazy!

Seriously…how do you find all of this great music??? I want to know your secrets!
And I’m all about my “me” time. My husband and I work with each other all day, so when we get home, it becomes me me me time. I have to do it to stay sane!

I love this post so much & I am totally loving that song now! It sounds like you are juggling so much– PLUS planning a wedding, but doing such a good job at all of it!
