Oh Monday how are you here already? So my weekend had a change in plans when I got a call from my seamstress who informed me she had gotten into poison ivy while gardening so I couldn’t come in for my alterations appointment. Therefore I was free to be a pirate on Saturday. No lie I had a little moment of panic. I was having flashes of a romcom movie where the oils got on the inside of my dress and I went for my fitting to then wonder why I was itching and then I came down with a poison ivy rash right before my wedding. Why is everyone trying to make me crazy right at the end??? Linking up with my girls Biana and Meghan.
Friday morning started off by making a quick stop to raise our right hands to swear the paperwork we filled out including we had never been married before was correct. Marriage license complete.
I had an early release day and met one of my girlfriends over in my old ‘hood as I like to call it for lunch. Fruitwood such a cute place! Pop up market with fresh food and brick oven. I had an iced coffee and she asked if I wanted almond milk. Yes! Boooo with soy, hooray for almond. They know whats up.
I got their wifi code and sat out in the amazing weather soaking up the pre Gasparilla buzz of the city.
Took advantage of the countdown days to use this.
Friday night Mark cooked some beautiful filets. He is really stepping up this whole cooking in thing.
Saturday my brother came in town and we took him out for the best people watching pirate parade. The outfits did not disappoint this year. I wish I got pictures but a few were burned into my brain I probably will never forget. Here is the pirate ship coming in to conquer the city. Who wants to come and visit me? It was 70 degrees and gorgeous.
Loved being able to hang out with my brother.
True story he really tried to intimidate Mark since I am the baby sister and all but they hang out all the time now even without me. Best friends forever hahahhaha. Clearly I have a pose.
Sunday was spent being very lazy. Catching up on work and consuming way too much food. I am a little scared of my fitting on Tuesday. It will be protein bars and salads till the wedding mark my words.
All I have to say about Sunday night. I literally turned to Mark and said “what in the world is going on with those dancing sharks???? Not going to lie though I kinda dig them”. Missy Elliot killed! I like the way your work that those fins.
Oh and I can finally add this.
Wow heart attack how many times. Mark and I definitely danced around……I just wish we had some dancing sharks to go along with it.
How was your weekend? Does you city have a big event that happens every year that brings in tons of people? Such gorgeous weather for Gasparilla! xoxoxoxoxo
P!nky says
GAH, totally understand the moment of panic, but glad you didn’t let it stress you out unnecisarrily or ruin your weekend. It will all be fine, I promise.
i’ve always wanted to go to Gasparilla, but never made it down. Sounds like y’all had a great time, whoop!
The dancing sharks won the Super Bowl, per social media. Too funny, right?
Tom Bray looked like a lil kid winning the world series, wow, what an ending to the game! Have a great Monday, lady!
Andrea @ The Pineapple Cake says
Since you love Pene Rustica I may have to pick your brain before I am back in Tampa for all the restaurants I don’t know about but must eat at!
Glad you had fun at Gasparilla!! Between Gasparilla and the Super Bowl this would have been the weekend to be home for sure!
BLovedBoston says
What a win!! I seriously was losing it over here and our entire building was stomping by the end!!! When I was at UF going to Gasparilla was the highlight of January/February…always a fun weekend!! So glad you had some family time along with getting your marriage license – final countdown mode!! Happy Monday love! xo, Biana – BlovedBoston
Jenn says
Oh man! Your poor seamstress! Everything will work out fine for you in the end, so no worries :)
Gasparilla looked like so much fun–I was seeing pictures of it all weekend and it looked a lot more fun and WARM than it was here haha.
Love your Superbowl shirt!! :)
MakeMeUpMia says
The pirate parade sounds fun, I can imagine some of the outfits haha. I’ve been to 2 Katy P concerts, she does a lot of crazy outfits and routines like she did last night, they’re always cute & fun :)
Pamela {Sequins and Sea Breezes} says
I am so sad I didn’t make it over to Gasparilla on Saturday! I haven’t been in years and it was such a gorgeous day for it. I ended up running all over town looking for a rug. Which I of course didn’t find. Congrats to your Pats win! I know my mom is super happy as well! Happy Monday love!
Nadine Lynn says
What a fun weekend!!! It would be totally cool to see a pirate ship like that :) I said wtf a lot during the half time show. I just honestly was a little underwhelmed by the whole thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love Katy Perry and Missy Elliot was awesome!!! Buttttt it wasn’t a wow factor for me other than the whole wow wtf are these sharks doing hahaha.
Jillian says
lol those dancing sharks were great! i was happy to see missy too…although im sure LOTS of the kids at home probably didnt know who she was. sad. xo jillian – cornflake dreams
Ashley says
The pirate parade looks so fun! The sharks last night… hilarious. I bet the people inside were having a blast!
Julia says
Hahaha I said almost the exact same thing to Adam about the dancing sharks! So bizarre but pretty awesome! I’m glad you had a good time at Gasparilla! :)
Paige @ An Uncomplicated Life Blog says
I thought you were kidding about this pirate thing, but no? It’s a legit thing?! Hahahaha!
The sharks killed us. I think Kirk and I stopped what we were doing to stare open-mouthed at the tv, then looked at each other like WTF? I know many people liked it…. I did not. Missy, on the other hand, killed it!!
Caroline At Windy City Chic says
Tom Brady in that gif, he was like a little kid!! Congratulations on your win last night. Not sure what was going on with Katy Perry either. I also don’t like her anymore because I totally believe that she was mean to Taylor Swift. Loved Missy Elliott though!! Great pictures and I would be more than happy to come and visit you. Congratulations on getting your marriage license too!! :-)
Joey says
Sitting on that patio in the gorgeous weather looks absolutely perfect! I miss the days of meeting friends for lunch! I used to do that all the time in downtown Athens at my favorite place (The Last Resort, it was SO yum!) You can tell Mark that I take my steaks medium rare ;)
Sara Elizabeth says
My new life goal is to be one of those dancing sharks!! I’m pretty sure a pirate parade is EXACTLY what my weekend was lacking, too…
Karly @ Miss in the Midwest says
Let’s be honest – those dancing sharks were the best part of the entire performance. Ha! Glad you had a good weekend, girl – how cute that Mark and your brother are BFFs. It’s the best when that happens!
Caitlyn {Home Sweet Ruby} says
Such a crazy (and stupid, on Seattle’s part) end to that game, I’m sure y’all were so happy!! My husband was joking that he was trying to buy me Katy Perry’s first costume with the flames but it didn’t come in maternity. haha Somehow I missed those shark dancers. Looks like a fun weekend, Gasparilla is always entertaining!
Ally Harding says
How awesome the coffee shop had almond milk!! I never buy coffee drinks but if SB started serving almond milk, I’d be there daily! Gasparilla is such a weird thing to me! I mean why does everyone dress up as pirates?! I don’t get it!
Ally – Life as I know it
Nichole @ casadecrews.com says
Hahah, dancing sharks and some beach balls?! That was bizarre – but my fave half-time show, ever! They all killllled it.
Carly says
I loved those sharks. They were great and I’m pretty sure one of them (or both) was on drugs. Congrats on the marriage license!
amanda @ as the wine cork turns says
yay for marriage license! the countdown is on!!! and yes, that game was nuts.
Pink and Fabulous says
OMG that poison ivy store gave me true anxiety for a minute! Also, the pirate ship and parade of pirates – how have I never heard of this before?!
Tori G says
Congrats on getting your marriage license! PS That salad looks amazing!!!
Mree says
What a fun weekend!! 18 more days, right?? So exciting!! I didn’t watch the game at all but I did watch the halftime show. I thought those beach balls were adorable. I’m not into football at all, I know weird. I don’t know how they will be able to have a parade with all this snow. Another storm today that is dropping 10 more inches. There is no room!
Lyndsay says
Sounds like a fun weekend aside from your seamstress getting poison ivy, that’s never any fun. I don’t think you have to worry, you’d have other, much bigger problems if she was going straight from the garden to your dress. The dancing sharks were fun but I really didn’t get why the beach balls needed to have weird faces.

Christina says
what a freaking game!! so great. love the shirt. yay!
Alisha says
Adorable shirt. Looks like a great weekend, minus to poison ivy debacle.
Katie Elizabeth says
I swear I was just reading your recap last year of pirate weekend! Where does the time go?! And yes, the dancing sharks really stole the show.. no idea what was going on but I did love the Missy appearance! Happy Monday!
Amanda - Voyage of the MeeMee says
BHAHAHAHA… I had the same oils/itching scenario go through my mind!!!!
Missy Elliott was the SHIT! I miss her!
SMD @ lifeaccordingtosteph says
The dancing sharks…I don’t get it. Stop it, Katy Perry. I loved seeing Missy pop out during that performance though. She stole it.
Your weather is swoon-worthy compared to the slop up here in Philadelphia recently. Blah.
Heather C says
The weather was ABSOLUTELY perfect for it this weekend. I didn’t get the dancing sharks, but her stage was killer with all the screens she was dancing on!
Kerry @ Till Then Smile Often says
The half time show was so weird, though I loved Missy Elliot coming out on stage. The game was amazing! So glad they pulled out the win!!
Helene in Between says
what a fun weekend- awesome weather!! it’s so cold here in Dallas, I’m jealous! The pirates look so fun and I LOVED Katy’s performance. Even with the sharks :)
Kiki Mincks says
Oh romcoms, making us think the worst, yet most comical outcomes of every major life event.
Yes to almond milk! I can’t tell you how irritated I get when I ask “do you have almond milk?” And of course the blank stares or smirks I get in return…. sigh… the struggle is real.
We all have “the pose.” (;
Joshua and I were actually quite upset that #dancingsharks wasn’t actively trending on twitter….
Kate at Green Fashionista says
Every year I say I’m going to finally check out Gasparilla, and I never make it out there. Probably because it creeps up out of no where and I never get to plan for it. And lol at “the pose” my mom has been making fun of me for years for always posing the same way in photos. I say if you like the way you look, and it photographs well then go for it because I know I sure do ;-)
The Pink Growl says
Gasparilla seems so fun! I’d love to experience it one day!
Stacy G says
Looks like so much fun! I kind of love your pose. I need to get a good go to pose, bc my pics are always awkward lol. xo
Brianne says
I thought the sharks were the best part of the halftime show haha. That dinner that Mark made looks delicious!
Shelby / Recent Somethings says
I think the dancing palm trees were the real low of last night haha. I had to turn it UP for Missy! Love your pirate look and those filets!
Amy @The Crazy Wise Woman says
I hated Katy’s stupid wardrobe choices. Missy was ah-mazing… show stealer if you ask me! That pirate ship looks pretty cool! I’m disappointed that you didn’t get some outfit pics though lol
Kay R. says
Loved you weekend! Mark is really stepping his game up because those fillets look awesome! And love that your bro and Mark can hang out now. Brother love!
Meghan says
Those last minute things are seriously maddening but not letting them get you is the most important. It will get done and you will be beautiful! Also, I am SO jealous of your pirate invasion. I wanted one of Bourbon & Bowetie’s special edition bangles. I seriously cannot wait to see all the details from your wedding! xo
Kerri Taylor says
ha glad you had fun on sat! you’re too cute with your poison ivy nightmare. but hey the stress can get to you! all in all it looks like a great weekend! and i hear you on the needing to cut back. too much food lately! yesterday was bad ha

Girl, we use exactly the same pose (I call it the supermodel arm because it instantly makes my arm look skinnier ;)
It looks like you had a jam packed weekend with lots of awesome food, great pictures, and lots of unique times – my town has nothing like a Pirate weekend, so fun!
Elle Sees says
someone needs to go as a dancing shark for halloween! one of my guys friends would totally do it.
Aimee @ Aimlessly Elegant says
Yay for the marriage license! I’m sure everything will work out great with your dress, there always has to be those last minute stressors, it wouldn’t be a wedding without them!
Samantha @ 24 to 30 says
I was actually in Tampa Saturday, I’m from Ohio but we were visiting friends and went to Tampa for a dinner cruise. We could not figure out why everyone was roaming around in pirate costumes until we asked someone. It was awesome!
Tami says
Yes! I admit I was in Tampa pirating this weekend. For lack of a better word, what a shit show! I was waiting for an important work call, of course right around 3 pm when the parade is going on and all cell service drops off the map, and I had to ask some poor people if I could come inside and use their landline! Gotta love Gasparilla.
Tiffany {A Touch of Grace} says
I love that there’s a pirate parade! We have a festival called Seafar in Seattle and we have Seafair pirates as well. They do a landing and come torture all us land dwellers, haha! Sounds like a great weekend girl!
Kenzie Smith says
How fun about the pirates! I can imagine some of the costumes were pretty wild ha ha. I can’t say I am too happy about the Superbowl outcome ;) it was an intense game though!! Had us on the edge of our seats ha ha!
Paige @ Reasons to Come Home says
I wanna come visit! The pirates sound awesome! When the sharks came out, Cory looked at me and said “Are we high?” Haha!
Nikki P says
The dancing sharks were awesome!! ahh poison ivy, glad to hear things are all clear with that. My cousin lives out there and was people watching at Gasperilla lol, sounds fun!
Julie @ Just the Joy's says
Well this sounds like a great weekend except the whole dress alteration cancellation and poison ivy oils being all over your dress! Lol. Now let’s hope that realistically would not happen :)
Amanda June says
What a great weekend! The pirates sound awesome! 70 degrees in February when can I come? LOL I would be so nervous about the whole poison ivy thing too, but think positive. I am sure you will be fine! Okay and those dancing sharks were my favorite. Too funny!
