Things I’m Digging Lately – Favorite Hippie Girl Products + Giveaway
August 20, 2015Something about getting older, maybe more wiser? I don’t know what it is but now everything I come in contact with, I want to be able to read all the ingredients on the label. Is that too much to ask? I think it is because of what I see on a daily basis. I am now just transitioning over to less chemical laden products. A lot of us forget that our skin is our largest organ and you systemically absorb a lot of the products that are slathered. So here are a few of my favorite hippie girl products as I like to call them.
I know I already talked about this product but I can tell you I took the ultrabland 30 day challenge. Nothing on your skin for 30 days besides this and it was a total game changer. I have combination skin and most acne type products really dry it out, which then forces oil glands to ramp up and then hello new/more acne. My skin completely cleared up after switching to this plus it is so soft and no more dry patches around my nose. There are thousands of glowing reviews on Lush, this product is the real deal.
I started this Summer having really crazy flare ups on my chest and back with breakouts. Probably because of being sweaty teaching back to back barre classes…..oh and FL is a million degrees. I tried everything and nothing seemed to get rid of it. I mean I even went to the dermatologist and she tried to give me 4 different products, two of which were antibiotics. I finally picked this up at Trader Joe’s or find it on Amazon here. Two solid weeks of putting it on my chest and it is almost completely gone. Tea tree oil has natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. You can mix it with water to clean surfaces in your house as well without harsh chemicals. It’s kinda like the “Windex” of my big fat greek wedding.
When I was also trying to get my skin under control, I picked up this lotion. It has zero scent and ingredients you can actually read. Very soothing with aloe vera. I slather this everywhere, my face, hands, elbows. It is very gentle but effective.
I’ve mentioned this one forever ago but it is still my number one go to spot blemish product. Put this on the minute you see anything surfacing and it will be gone by the morning. It is legit. Plus, it doesn’t dry out your surrounding skin. This little jar has lasted me over a year. A little goes a long way.
Now I know the Swell bottles are all the rage but that price tag is just a tiny bit ridiculous. Jenn had told me about this water bottle and I picked it up on Amazon for half the price of the Swell bottle. I am a total believer. You can flip it upside down and it doesn’t leak. It keeps your water cold for 12 hours, like in the FL Summer car and still cold. I have been creeped out lately drinking out of plastic water bottles, especially when they get hot. Best part about it. You know what I’m going to say. It fits in my cup holder in my car. Grab it here on Amazon.
Best for last. Okay, I know I gushed over the Lush deodorant bar but I will tell you……if you ever applied it after shaving…..it was not pleasant. Hello burnville. Ashley had posted about this PiperWai natural deodorant a little while ago and she sold me when she said it didn’t burn after shaving when you put it on. I was like….sold! So, I did a few snaps (@meetatthebarre) on this the other night. You feel like a straight up hippie. It is a grey paste but I promise it rubs on clear. It smells really clean and fresh. It doesn’t burn and the best part. IT WORKS. I went for a run tonight and it was H O T hot out. This deodorant held its ground. No problems. I just feel so much healthier now that I am not rubbing aluminum into my under arms every single night which is so close to your axillary lymphatic drainage system.
So the peeps over at PiperWai want you to be able to try their amazing product. One lucky reader will get one for free! Rafflecopter time!

I keep seeing you and Jenn posting about that water bottle (not mentioned in this post) but I’m very intrigued! You know I’m loving that lush cleanser – it’s amazing and I will be purchasing! :) xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

I never paid attention to labels until I was pregnant and since then have become aware oh the ingredients in all my products. I have become obsessed with Beautycounter products! I use their makeup, soaps and even shampoos. They are a lil pricey but seem to last for a good amount of time. Even if you don’t purchase any products check out the Beautycounter Never List. It lists all the ingridents that are harmful for you. Also, check out the EWG.org site. They have an app where you enter in your beauty products and it tells you how bad it is in terms of allergies and toxic ingredients. I couldn’t believe how much stuff I thought was natural was bad for me! I did a few blog posts on Beautycounter and EWG over the past two years!

This is such a great post! I feel like companies will just put anything in their products and that’s scary!!! I can’t wait to try the piperwai deodorant. Thanks for sharing!

All of these look amazing!! I am such a fan of keeping thing more on the natural side. The blemish therapy sounds really cool. Ive never heard of that! That Jason moisturizer looks great too. I’ve used other products in the line, but not that one. I have got to plan a little trip to Lush. Or just place an online order.. xo
Ashley says
Woohooo for natural deodorant that works! So glad you like it :) That Lush cleanser sounds awesome!
Kate @ Green Fashionista says
I was very intrigued by that water bottle when you snapped about it yesterday, as I’m also grossed out by plastic bottles in the heat. I love that it doesn’t leak or “sweat” and keeps it cold in the FL heat win-win-win <3
kerri @ cheshire kat says

Carly says
I love your hippie girl reviews. I’m totally checking out that Lush cleanser as soon as my suki cleanser runs out.

I would try a natural deodorant if I was 100% it works. I have serious sweating issues even in the winter so it has to be like the holy grail of deodorants lol. I do really want to try the Ultrabland cleanser maybe it will help my acne :)
Jaelan @ Making Mrs. M says
I’ve finally found a natural deodorant that I like-it’s a “crystal” liquid deodorant.
I’ve turned to some hippie-type products, too.
Jenn says
I’m SO glad that you like your pure barre red bottle!! I knew the selling point would be the cupholders–I saw it sitting there prettily in your snap on your drive home last night haha.
I’m definitely intrigued by that deodorant! The tea-tree oil is something I’ve heard amazing things about for all kinds of stuff (like apple cider vinegar). I’ll need to get into that!
jillian says
awesome!! i really want to use more beauty products with LESS chemicals so this post is great. would loveee to try this deodorant! xoxo
Karly says
Okay, you have me sold on the Lush facial cleanser. I need all the help that I can get. Also, I suffer from body acne year round and have found that using Oxy/Stridex after I get out of the shower from a workout or at night before bed works absolute wonders.

I keep seeing Swell bottles but have yet to grab one! Thinking I need to!

I am getting more and more into “hippie” products as I’m learning about ingredients and what they do to my skin. These are some great ones for me to try! I love BareMinerals and have been getting more blemishes lately, so I want to try that Blemish Therapy.
Jaclyn says
A natural deodorant that works? I’m obviously skeptical! I sweat a lot, and I hate wearing deodorant but it’s an absolute must. I would love a natural one, I’m totally trying this out.
Helene in Between says
I love lush products! I need to try ultrabland! I’m all about natural deodorant- need to try that!
Kiki says
I have been searching forever for a good paraben free face lotion! None have been moisturizing enough. I have a pretty oily face but I’m terribly dry under my eyes and my forehead. Do you think this Jason moisturizer would work for a combo skin type?
As for natural deodorant, I wear the Crystal brand in the lavender scent and swear by it. However I have never had a problem with sweating so I’m not sure how it would hold up.
Rachel says
Such a great list of products! I’ve wanted to try the Swell water bottles, but you are so right, they are so expensive! I will definitely have to check out this MIRA bottle!

I have started to become aware of stuff that I am putting on my face and body as well. I basically want everything that you posted about!!! I am super intrigued about that deodorant! Do you like it better than Lush? I sweat baaadddd and need something that is going to hold up! That water bottle sounds like a dream and it is prettier to look at than the Yeti! And I remember you talking about that face wash before. I really wish we had a Lush store here so I could check it all out in person! I guess I will just have to trust and order online. Or you know….make a trip to the Atl soon :) Thanks for always sharing awesome stuff with us. My bank account hates you but I love it!

Gluten Free lotion and tea tree oils are all the rage in my household right now. Baby boy has gluten allergies and the tea tree is keeping my preschooler lice free. (seriously) She just started school and I’ve read that the tea tree oil will keep the nasty little buggers away. TMI?
Lindsay says
Must buy everything! I am all about natural products and knowing what is in everything. You’re just making me way too happy with this post!
Amy @ The Crazy Wise Woman says
I saw your snaps the other night and was hoping I didn’t miss this post! I would have emailed you anyway but… I need that deodorant. I am scared to death of the aluminum but haven’t really found a natural product that I love. My breakouts have been horrible this summer, going to try that ultra bland too! Love Lush!!!
Amanda says
I’m a huuuuuge LUSH fan! I got introduced to them about 5 years ago bc I worked there over the holidays – mannnnn do I miss my 50% discount!
Brittany @ PerpetuallyDaydreaming says
Loving this post girl!! My dad always makes fun of me and calls me a tree hugger for things like this, but I think more and more people are coming to the natural side of beauty products. I am definitely going to try out that Lush facial cleanser (thanks for sharing btw!!) and I’m a little hesitant about the deodorant. I tried Tom’s of Maine and was not a fan.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I need to get that water bottle! It looks great!

I think you may have convinced me to try this deodorant. And maybe be a convert. I don’t know what it is because I thought BO was more of a teenager thing (puberty!) (go away!), but with all the pilates I’m doing lately I’ve been on the search for a new deodorant that actually works!
Darcy says
That lotion sounds great! I have SUPER sensitive skin so I have to be really careful with the lotion I use. I need to look into it!

Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis says
Good to know about tea tree oil! I have some but never used it for breakouts! I will give that a try. The water bottle sounds awesome too!
Caroline @ Windy City Chic says
I think that I have same kind of skin that you have because I run into the exact same problems when it comes to acne/breakouts. Definitely checking out that Lush cleanser and I have been using natural deodorant from Trader Joe’s for a while. You are right about the burning though, totally happened to me the other day. Ouch!! Thank you for sharing and I hope that you had a great day today!!! :-)

Tea Tree oil is the besttttt for breakouts! I just picked up a water bottle like that from TJMaxx because my water always gets boiling in the car all day and it is amazing!!! I finally have cold water again! :)

Another great aluminum free deodorant is by Naturally Fresh and it doesn’t burn at all! I’ve been using it for about a year now and it really does work even with my crazy hormones and sweating like a pig it prevents me from smelling! I’m buying that water bottle now!
Vicki G. says
I don’t know if it’s my old age of 31, or what, but I really feel the need to have more all natural products than I ever have before. I have tried the Lush deodorant and yes, it does burn after shaving!! I really want to try the PiperWai version!! And also, after seeing your snaps and blog posts…..I went ahead and bought to water bottle! Thanks to Amazon Prime…it will be here in no time!!
Carly says
I have the hardest time finding deodorants I like and have wanted to try out some natural brands, so that one sounds amazing! I always love when you do these posts :)
Crystal H says
Now I want every single one of these products. Well, except for the Tea Tree Oil stuff. I can not get over the smell of tea tree oil. I have tried shampoos, conditioners, cleansers and toners with it (it was popular about two years ago and I was sent a lot of free stuff) and it is stinky. :)
Nadia @ The View Is Beautiful says
I love tea tree oil! I’ve used it on spots for years. In the last few months I’ve been mixing it with witch hazel to make my own makeup brush cleanser (I wrote a blog post about it here if you’re interested). I’ve really wanted to try out a natural deodorant but I have no idea where to find them around here or what brands to start with! If that one can work during a Florida summer I’m pretty sure I’m sold!

Loving this giveaway! Am excited to learn about these natural products and would love to try the deodorant! How cool! Visiting from #TBB #LinkyLove
