Trending : Off the Shoulder Dresses

When it comes to all things fashion, as you know give it time and the trends always seemingly circle back.  One trend that I was not quick to jump back onto was the off the shoulder necklines.  It just brought me back to the days of Beverly Hills 90210 circa Donna Martin and those boho tops she was always sporting.  Plus, it was too dangerously close to the tube tops and attached long sleeves trend.  I just can’t.  I’ve also seen chokers making a comeback and I promise you, I will never be reviving the black choker trend no matter what.  However, I have really been loving the flirty fluttery necklines that are making a comeback in a big way.  Now to find a piece that actually works with my body type.

I ordered a ton of dresses and returned a ton of dresses due to the fact most of them had no shape, the material was see through or the off the shoulder area would keep on sliding.  I finally found the holy grail with this Susana Monaco dress.  Yes, it is a little bit on the pricier side but I guarantee you, when the Summer heat sets in.  I will be wearing this dress on major repeat.  The best part, a built in bra.  How genius.  That was always my concern with these dresses, what bra to wear, how uncomfortable having that strapped on with the irritation around my shoulders on top of it.  Well, this dress solves that for you.  Also, there is an elastic band that goes around the top that keeps the sleeves in place with no slipping.  The dress isn’t lined but is thick enough you don’t have to worry about the sun peaking through.  I steamed it and it stayed relatively wrinkle free in the FL heat.  Add some fun espadrilles, a Spring purse and you can even layer some dainty necklaces on top.  This will be your new favorite hot weather dress.  (Sidebar, I was outside for seriously only an hour at the baseball game with my fam with 45 SPF on prior to this….the Florida sun is no joke).

What are your thoughts? Are you liking this trend for the upcoming hot weather days? Which pieces do you have your eyes on?

I know that the off the shoulder dresses are trending right now, but like you said, I always find them so baggy! Love your Springtime nail polish color!

I agree – most of the off the shoulder dresses really lack shape, but this one is so pretty on you!! I’m not sure I’ll be sporting the dress (haven’t found one yet) but definitely still on the hunt for a great off the shoulder top!! xo, Biana

I love the flowyness of this dress, so feminine! I am in the process of buying and returning so many things because they are just not right. I’m not real trendy, so if I’m going to hop on board, it has to be perfect! I’ll have to check this dress out!

I’ve had my eye on this dress for a while! I love the off the shoulder look on other people and it seems like it might be good for breastfeeding so I might give it a try this summer!!

That dress is so cute on you!!! I love that it has a built in bra. I am liking the off the shoulder look this year but I am with you. I doubt my black choker will ever make a reappearance.

Gorgeous! Love that dress on you. I’m pretty sure I’d have some indecent exposure thanks to the little guy if I wore something like this, but it’d be perfect for date night!

This dress looks fabulous on you! I’m loving the off the shoulder trend, but seriously no to chokers. They can’t come back!!

a built in bra is genius because that’s one of my hang ups with all these new off the shoulder things. I’m way too old for no bra. Gravity is not my friend :)

YES to Donna Martin with the black CHOKER! LOL! Same story with overalls! How are those back in!? Anyway, love these dresses. I ordered similar white BB Dakota one from ShopBop but it was WAY baggy/maternity/mumu looking so alas it was returned … maybe I need to order a bunch like you and see which is best.

Beverly Hills 90210! Hahaha, yes!!! I think the key to pulling off this look is going high(er) end. I think ruffles and off the shoulder can look cheap real quick, so investing a little is totally worth it here.

That dress is perfection! I love that the sleeves stay in place and the built in bra – so smart! It also looks adorable on you, an all around win!

I absolutely love this look, it’s Donna Martin meets 2016! It’s a simpler and softer look, and the color of this dress is too pretty! And girlllll I will never get back on board with those choker necklaces either nor can I get on the overalls “trend”. No thanks!
