My Top 5 Must Have Travel Accessories

May 17, 2016

When you travel in a carry on for your almost two week honeymoon to Europe, you become very picky about what makes the cut in the carry on luggage.  These are my top five must have travel accessories.  These are tried and true and I wanted to share them with you.

Must Have Travel Accessories

Must Have Travel Accessories. The top five must have items to pack found at https://meetat-thebarre.com

A Colorful Scarf

must have travel acessoires

I tend to pack within a natural color palette that way things can be interchanged and you can maximize your travel space.  If you are trying to coordinate too many crazy outfits, that is when overpacking happens.  Have a good solid base of blacks, white, stripes and then add the colorful accessories to jazz up your outfits.  I always pack one colorful scarf.  It doesn’t take up a lot of room and can be used for just about everything.  Dress up your black dress at dinner, add it to your purse to liven up an outfit or add it to a scenery shot to give a pop of color.  Here are a few of my current favorites.

A Good Pair of Foldable Ballet Flats

I get asked just about every time I wear my Tieks if they are worth it and my answer every single time, is yes.  They are pretty much the most sturdy and walkable ballet flats I’ve ever owned.  You can walk miles in them.  I will tell you two things about them that I wish I would have noted.  I have ruined two pairs by one, getting caught in a rainstorm with them.  The second pair, from not wearing footie socks with them.  Since the inside of them are a solid insole construction, if you get them wet……that smell just won’t come out.  I’ve tried dryer sheets and every pinterest hack and I’ve had to resuscitate my first pair.  The second pair I have gone through was being lazy about not always wearing a footie sock.  Paired with another rain incident (hello FL rainstorms….).  Leather ballet flats and water do not mix.  I just ordered this pair and I’m being a lot more mindful with them.  I bought these socks (seriously why are they so expensive?!?!?) and I’m making sure to check the weather before wearing them to work or travel.

An Umbrella

I’ve had to buy at least 4 umbrellas on various vacations.  So now, I just keep one of those travel umbrellas always in my suitcase so I don’t run into that problem again.  Plus, I never realized how expensive an umbrella is until you have to buy one from a CVS during a downpour.  How adorable is the print of this one?

A Non Wrinkle Black Maxi Skirt

Black Maxi Skirt

I mean have you read this post yet?  A black maxi skirt should be on every single persons travel packing list.  It just works for everything. I also bring one long back cardigan as well.  It just goes with everything.  This maxi skirt is on sale and under $30.  This one from Tart is over 50% off.

A Mini Bag for Sightseeing

Cafe Du Monde

Dress Rebecca Taylor old similar HERE ||| Heels vintage YSL similar HERE ||| Necklace HERE

I like to have my hands free when sightseeing and not having to lug around one of my 20lbs purses.  I usually use my camera strap as a purse and therefore don’t have to worry about a big purse to keep it in.  Also, I tend to find when my camera is in my purse, I don’t reach for it as much.  When it is on my shoulder, I have direct access to it.  I love this total Chloe dupe for under $50 here.

Here are a few other trending pieces I have on my radar for Summer Travels!

I need these colorful earrings especially at that price point.  I am so in love with this dress, just need some place to where it.

Also don’t forget your packing cubes, remember from this post.  If you like this travel post, make sure to check out my travel section here.  What are your must have travel accessories?

The umbrella is absolutely a must – we have two travel ones that we take just in case it rains…which it did for most of the time we were in London! The flats is another must for me as well…I need to be comfy walking a ton! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

Great advice my friend! I’ve been packing in a carry on more often and these tips are great! Also, after getting caught in a massive downpour in NY last month- the umbrella is a MUST!

Yes to bringing an umbrella and flats! It’s such a bummer to get caught in the rain without one. It rained the big night of my destination bachelorette and I ended up scrambling to buy one off the street for a bajillion dollars – after getting soaked in the process!

  12. Carly says

    May 17, 2016 at 9:47 AM

I definitely need an umbrella upgrade! I have such bad luck with shoes getting ruined so I feel your pain about getting stuck unexpectedly in rain in shoes you never want to get wet!

I’m getting ready to buy my first Tieks for our trip to Europe this fall, so it’s great to know that they tend to smell if you don’t wear socks with them. I tried clicking on the link for the ones that you use and it just took me to google. Could you send me the link? Also, I’ve been looking for a cute maxi skirt for our trip as well! Now I’m going to have a hard time picking from the ones you provided!

I need to get a new black maxi, I just put mine in a bag for a clothing swap as it is way too big, I’ll check the ones you listed out. I have so many CVS umbrellas that I have bought on a whim and now are missing, I hate that! Socks link is broken :(

Great list. I always travel with an umbrella. I also throw in a little envirosax in case I need an extra bag. It has come in handy when we wanted to grab some snacks for the hotel room.

Agree with the black maxi, perfect for warm weather trips when you want to pack light…which is something I honestly don’t even attempt to do. Maybe one day I will learn!

  35. Tiffany says

Okay I read this at the perfect time. I just asked my girls about Tieks yesterday! I really want to get a pair for all our travels.
If you ever come to Seattle don’t bring an umbrella; bring a raincoat. People will laugh at you for your umbrella and it will get blown away. :)

    May 18, 2016 at 10:51 PM

Great list! Totally agree about needing a small bag and having some foldable flats!

  37. Julie Joy says

    May 19, 2016 at 8:32 AM

These are great items! I never would have thought about the scarf but it’s so perfect!

  38. Danielle says

    May 20, 2016 at 6:14 AM

Ballet flats aren’t really my personal style, but I see the logic in saving space with a foldable pair. I’m all about little tennis shoes for easy walking shoes. As someone who traveled around California for two weeks in a carry-on, I can TOTALLY feel you on this post. & black maxi skirt is lifeeee,
