I wouldn’t consider myself a “trendy” dresser. I am usually about dressing for my body type, finding investment pieces that I can wear for work and transition, plus mixed in with some feminine/boho vibes. I tend not to dress for the hot trend of the moment and try to stick with pieces that will last over many seasons and trends. So I’ve been seeing a lot of the same “trends” making their way full circle again and I will let you know. I am not digging them. You will not see me wearing them. No offense to anyone who is currently rocking them but they will not be making their way into my closet.
Spring Trends You Won’t Catch me Wearing
The Bandana Scarf Wrapped Around the Neck Trend
I’m sorry. Every single time I see this, I think of two things. One, what gang affiliation is that apart of. Two, you seriously couldn’t have found anything else more fashionable in your closet to accessorize with? I mean, there are so many beautiful necklaces and scarfs that are out there. You are really going to tell me that wrapping one of those bandanas I used to fold up 18 times in a row to make a headband that I slicked my bangs back with for field hockey when I was 12. That is what is trendy? I will pass on this trend. Instead, I will continue to accent my purses or outfits with fun and colorful tassel scarfs and prints because I am down with that.
Chokers
I just can’t behind this. It reminds me of the plastic zigzag chokers that I used to stretch around my poor throat and you know I rocked one on my upper arm back in those early teen years. Right around the time I thought pink frosted lipgloss was cool as well. I don’t care if it’s dainty or layered. I am not wearing a choker again. That is a 90’s fashion trend that can stay buried with the butterfly hair clips.
Overalls
Are you seeing a trend here yet? All these things that are coming back, I used to wear when I was 12. I was very awkward during those years and just like the memories of 7th grade, I would like those fashion trends to continue to be buried. I remember BEGGING my mother to buy me a pair of Tommy Hilfiger overalls from the outlet. They were hideous. No shape and a light wash. I thought I was the coolest rocking those designer label overalls. I can’t even remember how I styled them but I’m sure it was terrible. I don’t care if the overalls now are tapered, distressed, “lightened up” for the Summer. I want nothing to do with them. You will never see me rocking overalls on here, I promise.
Wide Leg 3/4 Length Pants
I’m okay that flares are back. I actually really like a good quality pair of fitted flares. What I do not like, is this weird trend of flares that are 3/4 length and don’t hit your ankles. Like who are those flattering on? I can’t think of anybody. Why do they need to be cropped? Are you wearing them with boots? Isn’t this Spring time fashion? I’m very confused by this trend. It is also way too dangerous close to the gaucho pants trend, that never needs to come back again.
Round Sunglasses
I love me some 70’s trends but I just can’t get behind the circle sunglasses. I just hate the way they look on my face and I feel like it’s not a good investment to dump any money into an expensive pair. A cheapie pair from F21 sure but even then I’m just not feeling it. I do really love the two tone aviators that are out now. This Dior pair is $600 but I like my $16 option here much better.
Things You Will See me Wearing
Give me all the bright colors, tassels, distressed, florals, cutouts, fringe, and feminine pieces. Of course I love all the off the shoulder everything.

Make sure you hit up the Nordstrom Half yearly sale! This is one of my favorite Spring sales because they deeply discount the designer pieces. Sizes sell out quickly, so don’t hesitate. These basic black pump Jimmy Choo are 40% off and fully stocked with sizes. I have these perfect nude wedges, they are insanely comfy and a great price point. Everyone talks about this tunic and how it works for everything. I love the grey and cream especially for that price. I ordered these caged heels and can’t wait to get them. I have these espadrilles and they are my absolute fav. This maxi dress always gets fabulous reviews.
What trends are you totally not digging this Spring? What things are trending that you absolutely love right now?

I loved this article! It’s so nice to finally see a blogger who doesn’t follow the trends!

You are always one of the top go to blogs for me to get inspiration for clothes and learn about all the great sales!
Bri @ North Star Girl Lone Star World says
Those tattoo chokers are back! I’ve seen a couple different people wearing them and all I could think was “why?!”
Biana @ Blovedboston says
Oh gosh I am so with you on all of those – I don’t really get why some styles are coming back either! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
Sarah says
Thank you for putting overalls on this list! Love your blog, always real and on point ??
Ashley says
I’m really on the fence for some of the trends… I’ve seen them styled really cute but majority of the time I’m shaking my head because it just looks so off. Round sunglasses would definitely not look good on my face haha! I 100% rocked the stretchy chokers in my youth. Won’t be doing that ever again!
kristen says
hahahaha for reals though. i used to rock the overalls and the plastic zigzag chokers when i was 11 or 12. no thanks! that bandana scarf thing is just weird. why?!
Nadine says
Hahahaahaha butterfly clips!!!! Oh how I loved those things! You wont find me sporting any of these trends again either. Like you, they were popular during my awkward years and I have nothing but bad pictures to remind me why these things didn’t work on my body then….and they sure as heck wouldn’t work now!!!
Caroline says
I will not be wearing ANY of those trends either. So sorry to offend anyone out there, but those are all awful. Not to mention I would look ridiculous. Anyways… I’m ready for that Nordstrom sale and I’m hoping to snag a pair of nude heels for work. :-)
kerri @ cheshire kat says
ok literally all of the ones you picked i won’t be wearing either. not flattering at all if you ask me! ha. but yes to off the shoulder tops alllll day
xoxo cheshire kat
Jenn says
I dont like ANY of these trends either!
Brittany @ PerpetuallyDaydreaming says
Thank goodness I’m not the only one hating some of those awful 90s pre-teen trends!! Love the off the shoulder top though!
Gentry Adams says
This cracked me up! I totally agree with all of your choices of trends to not try :) And let’s all hope butterfly clips don’t come back in vogue!
Rebecca Jo says
I didnt even know that bandana thing was a thing. My dad wears cold ones around his neck on his farm. I’ll tell him he’s fashionable
Pamela @ Sequins & Sea Breezes says
I am right there with you on some of these trends. The wide leg/flare capris? No. And bandanas? Really? I’m not completely opposed to the choker though. It just has to be the right one. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
Gina says
Umm.. YES. To all. 100%. I thought I was the only one who didn’t feel like sporting a choker and gaucho pants … no thanks! I’ll look at my high school photos if I feel the need.
Jesica says
I had to laugh at this because I also wore a lot of the 90’s trends the first time around when I was an awkward tween! I’m personally loving my cropped flares & round sunnies, but I’m also a firm believer that you shouldn’t HAVE to embrace every trend. Stick to what you love, always!
Amanda says
Um, these are all hideous! There’s just no way, at all!
emily @ a little bit of emily says
These all crack me up! Like you, these things remind me of what I wore when I was SUPER awkward. Definitely won’t catch me in them this go around.
Ashley @ The Wandering Weekenders says
It really is amazing how things really do come back in style! I don’t think that I could get behind the wide 3/4 length pants, but I’m definitely all about the tassels and fringe this year!
Helene in Between says
welp i am choker and overall obsessed. i think i wear a choker almost daily! and i like bandanas… kind of like chokers! haha!
Heather J MacKenzie says
Everyone will disagree, but I am over maxi dresses and skirts. Most women are too short to carry them off! And why you would want your clothes dragging on the ground is beyond me.
Missy@My Shitty Kitchen says
With you sister! I lived through the 90’s once, don’t want to do it again! Although I did save my overalls!
Arcadia says
No thanks chokers! Or the samurai half up/half down bun thing. What is happening out there…This is why I stick to minimalism – I always look classy and well dressed. Bonus! Can get dressed in under 5 minutes. Thanks for the post!
Shelby | Recent Somethings says
I want to gag when I see (especially a Kardashian wearing) a choker. And then I think of the white lace one I had with a damn strawberry charm on it from LTD Too lol. YES to the trends you would wear!
Tiffany (A Touch of Grace) says
Yes! I agree with you 100%. I didn’t even know bandannas around the next were back in, haha! They should all stay gone.
Lindsay says
BEST post ever! I’m laughing so hard and completely agree with every no!!
Jenn says
girl you will not catch me wearing any of those things either! I just cannot for the life of me understand the whole choker thing? I mean, isn’t it uncomfortable!?
Rachel says
YES. Amen. PREACH. All of these are just NOPES in my book too. Those 3/4 flare jeans remind me of the goucho pants I wore in middle school…shudder.
Owen Davis says
Good lord I totally agree with EVERY ONE OF THESE. The chokers and overalls… Just no. Not cute!!
Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis says
Chokers are back? Oh hell no! I don’t even want to remember those days. lol I do love that cute floral romper and the distressed jeans.
Nikki says
100% agree on all of these girl!! I was so worried you were going to have the cold shoulder/off the shoulder thing as a trend you’re not behind or some other stuff I’m rocking, but glad to see none of it made your list. I cannot with the damn chokers, there’s a reason they stayed in the 90’s. Also no to the overalls at all, they remind me of elementary school, but I have seen some fashion bloggers totally rock it…good for them! Love the off the shoulder trend, hope it sticks around for a while!
Danielle says
The neck scarf thing is quite possibly one of the weirdest trends I’ve ever seen.
You’re so right, I associate those with awkward 90’s bad hair days “folding it over 18 times in row” hahahha.
Thank you for introducing me to those two-tone aviators… something I never knew I needed before I knew it existed. Right now.
xoxo

Katie Elizabeth says
Yes yes yesss! I just can’t get down with the chokers again and I feel like round sunglasses would just look terrible on my face shape haha. On the other hand, give me all the tassels and off the shoulder pieces!
Kiki - According to Kiki says
Oh my YES to all of these. I don’t get the bandanna thing either. Not to mention when it’s like 100 F outside, that would just give you some totally unnecessary neck sweat. lol I too only see those plastic chokers we all rocked in elementary/ middle school. Mine had a little blue gem hanging off of it. hahah
A trend I just “can’t even” with is the floral head bands. Like, ok…. MAYBE if I were attending a concert? Still, I’m not sure I could do it. I feel like I’ve reached that “you’re too old to do that,” stage for certain fashion trends.
Arcadia says
The only time I’ve ever seen those be okay, Kiki, is when they’ve been dunked in water and then frozen.

Carly says
yesss to the kick crops! Though I totally think you could pull them off because you have long legs! And I didn’t know bandanas were back in style, haha, but they remind me of summer camp when I was in middle school.
Jackie says
I think overalls look cute on other people, but definitely not for me haha. I’m thinking maaaaaybe with the chokers, but haven’t really checked any out on myself recently. It is pretty funny it’s all stuff I loved as a kid!
Karly says
I’m so with you on the bandana around the neck trend – I mean, really?! Not cute, whatsoever.
