Five Products That I’m So Happy To Have Discovered

January 23, 2014
This post may contain affiliate links. Purchasing through them help support this website.
You know when you discover a product and you want to shout it from the rooftops?  Like it is such a game changer for you that you want to tell everyone about it?  Well I have a few of those and wanted to share them with you!

#1 Dry Shampoo
I have very long hair as you can see and as I told Mark when we first started dating…it doesn’t get washed everyday…I will shower but don’t expect as he know likes to call it “clean hair club” on a daily basis.  Listen my hair dresser told me not to wash it everyday or it will fall out and I’m sticking by her words.  I have tried every and I mean every dry shampoo out there.  That Loreal one, Oscar Blandi, Bumble and Bumble, Ojon and none of them compared to the holy grail one and only.  Which one is the knockout heavy weight champion?  In my opinion it is Redken Refresh 01.  It is an Allure Best of Beauty Winner etc etc but let me tell you why I love it.

You know when you are running ridiculously late and you look at your hair and you’re cursing yourself for hitting that snooze button the last time?  Oh that’s me like Monday-Friday.  Or when you’re told you need to be ready in 15 minutes are you’re still sitting in your sweatpants?  I spray this on the roots of my hair and do my 5 minute lightning fast makeup routine/brush teeth/put on clothes.  When I am done with that I take a brush to my roots and comb out my hair.  I am not joking you when I say my hair looks clean again….like just blow dried my hair clean.  It adds a ton of volume and actually looks shiny and healthy?  I really thought it was too good to be true but it really is that amazing!  So take my advice if you are looking for a go to dry hair shampoo this one is hands down the best. I’ll also spray it on clean dry hair to give my roots some extra lift for a fun night out.

#2 Prenatal Vitamins
Yes you did read that right and no I am not pregnant and not trying anytime soon.  However after a particularly bad shellac experience my nails were shot.  They were like paper thin and splitting it was horrible.  I tried those expensive french little pellet looking hair and nail vitamins from Sephora and they were total crap…..expensive total crap.  After talking with my sister who is a mommy of three the first words out of her mouth “go get some prenatal vitamins”….”which ones?” I pondered back “the ones at Target” was her response.  Not even brand name ones…like literally the Target brands ones. So here I am in the aisle at Target comparing all the prenatal vitamins and the Target Brand ones were the best bang for your buck.  They had the most calcium, Vit A, C, D, and E in them over the leading brands.  Also they have 800 mcg of Folic Acid which all women of child bearing age really should be taking a Folic Acid supplement if it’s at least the only vitamin you take.  Here is the CDC Recommendations.

If you can get out of Target without buying anything else it’s also a great value!  200 tablets for $7.  I have no problems with my stomach taking them (I take them at night before I go to bed).  My hair is now growing in thicker and more full.  It is also growing insanely fast every time I go to my hair dresser she cannot believe it has only been 6-8 weeks since the last visit. Also my nails are extremely strong and I can actually hold onto a manicure with chipping/peeling two days later. Two things I want to clarify…one obviously talk to your health care provider if you have any questions about what you should be taking because of your health history…..Second please warn your significant other of your purchase ahead of time or you may come home to this.

#3 Greens
I’m going to be honest…I haven’t gotten into juicing yet.  I have two reasons for this….one it looks like a ton of work and two that Juicer would take up precious real estate counter space in my already tiny kitchen.  It is already reserved for my Keurig.  I know I am not getting all my recommended essential fruits and vegetables. One of my girlfriends at work is a distributor for It Works! products.  Okay before you go rolling your eyes at me….I always politely say no to when people want to sell me things at work…..or when my Facebook feed is blowing up with Arbonne, Mary Kay etc (no offense it just stresses me out what if I don’t like it or something….that would be majorly awkward).  This stuff is legit though.  I swear since the day I started taking it routinely in the morning *knock on wood* I have not gotten sick.  If I’m starting to feel that scratch in the back of my throat I take another dose and it blocks it from coming on.  When I travel I take them….gross sharing recycled air with 250 of your closest friends….nasty.  I mix it in 4-6oz of water in the morning and throw it back.  It has a hint of orangey watered down flavor.  Every single person who I have given it to buys it afterwards because of how much better you feel after it.  Plus if you have any problems with a daily…you know….this will solve that problem in no time.
Plus it alkalizes your system.  I have been pinning a lot of alkalizing foods as of recent.  Acidic foods can change your pH.  They are being studied and thought to be a breeding ground for cancers, toxins, heart disease and other inflammatory diseases.

#4 Murad Acne Treatment Concealer
I still get the occasional blemish especially if I don’t wash my makeup off before working out.  This little stick is the real deal.  First of all it’s a concealer that covers extremely well plus it has Salicylic Acid (do not use if you are pregnant).  I use the lighter shade and it matches my skin tone perfectly.  It has green tea extract and it doesn’t make your skin all flaky and gross.  I have had the same tube forever, it is an investment that lasts a long time!  I got mine at Sephora and with Ebates you will get 4% back right now.
#5 SPF 50 Face Sunscreen
My face is super sensitive and breaks out when I attempt to use anything outside of my realm of 3 products.  I could never find a face sunscreen that wouldn’t break me out immediately.  Also sunscreens are so greasy and always left a sheen (not pretty glowing) like oil slick looking appearance.  When I found this L’Oreal Sublime Sunscreen SPF 50 I literally wanted to shout it from the rooftops.  It comes out of the bottle almost thin and liquidity.  However, when you put it on your skin it has a matte finish….read..no greasy slick lotion appearance. It goes on silky smooth…..don’t laugh it really does try it!  It has SPF 50 and does not break out your skin.  It is water and sweat proof, oil free and non-pore clogging.  It sits great underneath makeup.  I usually wait till my CVS or Walgreens has a buy one get one sale and stock up on it.  Try this I promise you will not go back to any other face sunscreen.
Well there you have it!  My list of products that I want the world to know about :-)  Have you tried any of these? What are your products you can’t live without? Do share! Have a fabulous Thursday!  xoxoxoxoxo

I love all things Redken yet somehow I have not tried their dry shampoo. I’m a big baby powder fan for my dirty hair needs, but I must try whatever Redken has to offer me!

i cannot live without my organic argan oil! i die for that stuff. it’s the only thing that saved my skin, erased the fine lines around my eyes and keeps my skin feeling like a baby’s ass.

Great post Amanda. I don’t know how I ever lived without dry shampoo it’s seriously my savior. Currently I’m testing out the Dove version of this product and love it so far.

That’s really interesting about the prenatal vitamins. I get my nails done very two weeks or so (shellac) and can definitely use something to make my nails stronger. Also, love the Murad face mask so this concealer might make it on my list for my next Sephora haul!

Great post, girlfriend! Ok, so… I totally agree about the dry shampoo…total lifesaver. I’ve been using Oscar Blandi. Pre natal vitamins are a fabulous alternative to a hair, skin and nail pill… I think I may switch over. Juicing is fabulous…so clean and nourishing. It really isn’t that much work and I keep mine in the pantry cabinet and only take it out when juicing cuz it is huge! Love your high acid list here, it just affirms my no meat philosophy:)
You are a natural blogger. Really good stuff here…keep up the quality blogging, my friend;)

You’ve convinced me to start taking prenatal vitamins! I need that dry shampoo. I use Suave’s but I know it isn’t the best just the cheapest.

Literally going to buy #2 and #3 this weekend!! I don’t really use dry shampoo since I have such dark hair – haven’t really found anything that works well with it!

Love it! These are some awesome finds. It’s probably stupid, but I always was scared off of taking prenatal vitamins cause I felt like they might somehow make me more likely to get preggo (also not trying any time soon). Is that just silly? They don’t make you more fertile?

HAHA that prenatal vitamin gif KILLED me. I can only imagine. And i’m trying to grow out my short crop of hair, so thanks for letting me know that helps speed up the process! i’m getting kinda antsy to be able to cut it into a bob. And i don’t think i’d look like a presentable person without dry shampoo- such a life savor!

Hahaha love the gif for the prenatal vitamins. Honestly, I’m the same way when it comes to the Mary Kay, It Works, etc stuff. I have friends who sell it and it gets kind of annoying!

I have a few products I am incredibly thankful for. I cross check all cosmetic buys with http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ to check for toxic ingredients.

    1. Keys Brand Products, specifically the daily spf 30 lotion, the luminos (no spf) for night and the eye butter. By far the best non-toxic stuff I have found. Great lotion, great spf. The only downside is that is smells a little weird since it has no fragrance.

    2. Nubian Heritage Black Soap and Black Soap Lotion. Non-toxic, smells great and is not that expensive. You can buy it at Whole Foods. Soap is about $5 and lotion is about $10. It says its for break out skin, but I use it as an incredible hand lotion.

Love the sound of these products! I’m with you on dry shampoo. I used to wash it every day, but that too way too much effort haha. Dry shampoo is a life saver ;)

I love the alkaline food chart, we have a special water system that makes your water alkaline. We’ve had it for a few years and love it. It truly makes a huge difference.

I somehow missed this post the first time around, but am going to check out that concealer because I need something to cover up blemishes– I currently use the clinique acne concealer and it’s too liquidy and just doesn’t really work for me very well!
