Happy Monday! I hope y’all had a good weekend. Let’s get right into it. Scenes from the weekend. I apologize my brain is completely fried from all weekend looking at wedding venues and registering all day on Sunday. I am so proud of Mark he did so well but definitely saw his eyes glaze over when we were looking at vacuums….time to move on and get some dinner.
1//Cookie Practice for Valentines Day.
2//MacBook Stack.
3//Our Favorite sushi place surprised us with our own chopsticks with our names on them.
4//Registering! So fun!
5//Finally had time for a manicure! Butter topcoat and crystal nail file as mentioned here.
6//Zara leggings and Toms booties as mentioned in this post.
For anyone who is a new reader on December 14th I got engaged to my best friend and love of my life. If you have some time you can read about our engagement here.
We have the most wonderful friends and family and can’t wait for this exciting next year. We have our venue picked up but until that deposit is locked down I can at least answer the question that I am asked……about 5 times a day. Are y’all ready???? Here it is.
The “big date”. I am so excited to have a year to plan and so that way Mark and I will still like each other to be in the same room together when the big day goes down (just kidding….but not really).
The date is all awwww sentimental. It will be 4 days after our first date 3 years ago when the big day goes down. Almost 2 years ago Mark and I were trying to coordinate our first date and I threw out “how about Tuesday” to which he responded “I mean I’m good with that but you are aware that is Valentines Day” to which I correctly responded….”no I meant Thursday is good….yeah Thursday”. So at least our anniversary will be very easy for all to remember ;-)
Alright y’all tell me tell me. What is the best advice you can give me now that it all starts. What did you register for or didn’t register for that you wish you did. Have you been to a wedding recently that there was something different they did that you loved? Most importantly what are you budget saving ideas??? This coupon code queen over here needs to know what deals you scored on. Lay it on me! Hope you have a great day xoxoxooxxoo

Isn’t registering SO MUCH FUN! (Granted, I had a little *too* much fun and ended up with a few things we’ve still never used, ha!) Enjoy the next year of planning!

Oh my gosh yay!!!! I love the meaning behind your date! Ours is April 11, 2015. I originally wanted April 4th 2015 because April 3rd would be our four year anniversary. However, Easter is April 5th next year so we had to move it a week back! Happy planning!!

aww, just read your engagement story! How sweet. I fell in love with wedding planning after my own, and have done a few on the side, now! If you have any questions, feel free to pick my brain :) Jason was so bored when we went to register, other than that, he was a great groom to plan with, lol.

Yay for picking a date! Our wedding anniversary is February 25 :) I’m working on a 2 part DIY wedding series so maybe some ideas will help you out. It seems so overwhelming, but now that you have the date set, I’d register with The Knot and use their free checklist. It was truly a lifesaver and gives you a lot of ideas for things you wouldn’t think to do, as well as things you can go ahead and mark off if you don’t like. Exciting times!! :)

Congrats, darling!!! Such an exciting time. I would say really think about what is most important to you and spend more on those things…then cut back on what isn’t as big of a deal. For example…I spent a lot on my dress but didn’t go overboard with flowers. I spent more on the photographer and less on the DJ. Also, don’t invite people that you don’t see or talk to, nor care if they are there or not. Keep it intimate with the people you really want to share the day with and who cares if someone is upset…It is your day!!!!
If nothing else, you have to register for a food processor. A really nice one. And a dutch oven. Oh and everything you need for a kitty…cuz everyone needs a kitty;)
That is awesome that you guys got your own chopsticks…and your hubby to be is very cute!
XO, Gina

so exciting! i loved wedding planning and registering! i’m going to lots of weddings this year and plan to do a few posts on weddings! one thing i did was prioritize. decide what is most important- photos, flowers, dress, cake, etc…then spend your money in that area. i didn’t spend a ton on flowers but they were still gorgeous. it is definitely a good idea to get lots of quotes! can’t wait to follow along your wedding planning journey :)

yeah, thursday… do that! haha

I had no idea!!! Congratulations! I just read your engagement story and it was so sweet. Wedding planning is mostly fun, but I feel like I should warn you that you’re probably going to want to rip his head off at least once. Or maybe that was just me :) Don’t let anyone tell you what you HAVE to register for. I have 12 sets of China still in boxes sitting in my mom’s closet… 5 years later. What a waste. Weddings bring out a lot of unsolicited opinions. Just remember which ones matter… you and the groomie. That’s it. Have fun! I’m excited to follow the festivities! Woo hoo!!!
Char-lit says
Awww, YAY! You are about to have SO MUCH FUN! I loved every second of being engaged and getting married to the love of my life… <3 Top tip: Remember, it’s just a wedding. Planning your marriage is wayyyy more important. So make sure there’s plenty of quality time for the two of you all the way up to the big day, and beyond! The wedding will be a blast and magical and perfect and so sweet, but in the long run, you won’t even remember all the little details that seem so important now. You’ll just remember how awesomely in love y’all are. :)

So exciting that you’re wedding planning right now too! My biggest piece of advice would be to stay very organized because there is so much stuff to keep track of. I bought a wedding binder so that I could use all of the templates to keep me in check. That’s awesome that you are getting married in February. I think that winter weddings are so pretty and I’d love to have one, but that wouldn’t work with hockey season. Happy Monday and happy wedding planning!!

First of all you guys are gorgeous! Second of all, just read your engagement story and died a little bit- soooo sweet & your ring is gorgeous! I was literally the worst bride-to-be ever because I was still in school + completely overwhelmed the entire time we were engaged so I did like everything at the last minute and it was incredibly stressful, which I would NOT recommend, haha. However, if you do happen to do that, the good thing is the wedding will still work out, and probably somehow be perfect when it comes down to the actual day :)
Lisa Loves John says
Registering is SO much work!!! My husband and I had to do it over the span of 5 days because we kept getting burned out!

I have blogged a decent amount about my wedding and I am of course partial to it! We wrote our own vows which people liked, invited all women to participate in the bouquet toss (we did 5 roses with scratch off lottery tickets on each one), and hand-picked all music for a more personal touch. Photobooths are always fun! And to save money – buffets aren’t always cheaper, try to negotiate a food and beverage minimum instead of a room rental, see if your caterer will give a kids meal, and always shop around! I plan events and love weddings so let me know if you have any questions!

My best advice is that if anything goes wrong, no one will know it but you, so don’t freak out over anything that’s small and not worth it. Enjoy the ride this next year. It’s a heady time!

Yay! Congrats on picking your wedding date!! Registering was definitely one of my favorite parts of wedding planning, and your china pattern looks very similar to ours! I still love staring at our china, haha.
Rachel says
Oh, I remember registering, that was so fun!! Budget-wise, I think one of the smartest things we did was to go with a relatively new wedding photographer–their photos were AMAZING, I’m in love with our wedding photos, but the cost was less than half of other wedding photographers in the area because ours had only shot a couple weddings before us. Risky, but it was just what we needed.
Shannon Jenkins says
Yay! Congrats on picking a wedding date!! I got married a year and a half ago so I got some tips! Budget wise A LOT of DIY! We made our own invitations and basically everything haha! Try to book everything as soon as possible (which it seems you’re kn top of) because place’s and photographer’s prices are always rising! Biggest thing (which we didn’t do) if possible pick a venue that let’s you buy your own alcohol you will save SO much money! I got lots more but I’m having brain farts right now, but if you have questions, advice, recommendations don’t hesitate to email me! :) Happy planning!

Hey! I just got a chance to read your engagement story. It is really sweet. Congrats! :) I think your ring is so classy and beautiful. I have never been a fan of all the embellishments/add ons around the diamond that is trendy nowadays. I can certainly appreciate a bit of glamour, but I prefer a simple elegant style.

congrats on picking a date! i’m getting married in September and still have a ton to do oops. as for money saving, one tip I’ve heard is to get a small cute cake for the reception but then use sheet cakes from Costco to serve to guests. I still haven’t registered for stuff ha. we should probably do that soon!

wedding registry = blech. where are you registered? i want to stalk your registry, please! please please! i was OBSESSED with mine, like kept me up at night. and then i got ridiculously over it haha. but it was fun. hubby didnt get involved much at all, except once, after i had already registered, i dragged him to bed bath and beyond and he gave opinions on a few things, and he NEVER gives opinions. i stressed so long about vacuums haha. so silly.
i cannot wait to read more about the wedding even though its like 8 or 9 months away. do you have your dress yet, i forget. have you picked your bridal party? Ive never been a bridesmaid … jk, jk. bachelorette party? so fun! cant wait to see more and stalk you like crazy. weirdo i know
