Hello hello, long time no talk this week. I swear I had all my posts ready to roll this week and then life happened. Work has been so crazy this week, I honestly believe it’s the universe knowing that I am trying to leave for a trip. That is the time that everything just seems to get magnified right? I’m just one of those people that need to get everything finished plus work ahead before I can truly relax on vacation. Plus, thinking about what I’m going to pack for Denver and Vegas is driving me kind of batty. I know seriously first world problems Amanda but you know how I am very strict about packing in my carryon only. The weather in Denver is bipolar. My weather app is showing me 80s during the day and 50s at night? I mean boots and sundresses? What? I know I will figure it all out but for now, I’m just adding it to the list. I have been researching like the overachiever you all know me to be and I can’t wait to share it all with you when I get back. Thank goodness for wifi and long flights to catch up on work am I right?
So today I wanted to chat with you about something I know is not totally groundbreaking by any means but a roundup of what I feel are Fall staples that are worth the splurges and some great pieces that are totally affordable. Even though we are still blazing away in the 90’s here in FL, I keep on hoping for some slightly cooler weather. I wanted to share some of my Fall staples that have stayed in trend for the season and what is currently trending on the radar.
A great oversized chunky knit
I just picked up this Tally sweater from BB Dakota. It is insanely soft, not boxy, and is a form flattering sweater. Right now to transition, it can be tucked into a pair of boyfriend shorts and booties. Or wear it with a pair of skinnies and ballet flats. For the Winter, throw a scarf over it with boots and a coat. It comes in a few different colors, Shopbop has it in lighter colors, Zappos carries the darker color here. I also picked up this open front drape cardigan from the Nordstrom sale and it is the softest/most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn. You will not regret that purchase.
That go to striped piece
Did you know that Nordstrom is currently carrying J. Crew pieces? I just ordered this striped top and this flounce top. These will be on major repeat. Pick up this staple for under $20. Also, this split back version looks just like the one I bought last year and LIVED in.
The denim skinnies to live in
I have tried on and returned I’m not joking at least 50 pairs of distressed denim skinnies. AG makes the best quality pair. I have had the same pair for 3 seasons now, they do not bag out, lose their stretch, and wash beautifully.
A workhorse ballet flat
I used to be all about my Tieks for a ballet flat but I just picked up this pair and I seriously wear them every single day. They add just enough glam to the mundane everyday work outfits. A great budget version that I also like is the Yosi Samaras. You can find them on sale on sites like Gilt.
Layer on those accessories
I have been wearing this wrappable long line choker, you can wear it like I styled it above or bow it in the front. Break out those blanket scarves love this one and so affordable. This is my new favorite floppy hat, the color goes with everything. My new favorite sunnies are under $80.
Darker Florals & Lace
You can still wear these right now or throw some tights and a moto jacket over it. I adore this off the shoulder version that is under $50. Love the sleeves on this one and it’s 30% off. Great maxi version and it’s under $30 here.
A bootie to live in
If I had to pick my most favorite wedge bootie, it would be the Toms Desert bootie. I bring the with me whenever I travel and I can seriously walk miles in them. I dropped some questionable adult bev on them after my last trip, so they are currently out of commission. I do plan on scooping them back up again. I bought them in a gray color and they went with everything.
Suedes & Fringe
They trended last year and are back again in a big way. I am crushing so hard on this bag and it’s on sale (like $35). I like the brown leather better but I do think the black will go with everything. My suede button up mini is back in stock, grab it before it sells out.
Lace it Up
I scooped up this top above and even though it’s a foreign feeling of going sans bra, the material is thick and sucks everything in. Think of it more like a shapewear piece. I wore it with my suede skirt or you can throw one of those drape jackets over it. I also really like this sweater dress version that looks more bra friendly and it’s under $30.
Drape it Up
My favorite faux leather drape jacket is back again this season. I wore it on such repeat last year, it is a good ROI buy. Also love it in these colors as well.
Extra Credit
Interesting necklines, bowties, and Peter Pan collared dresses. I’m basically in love with the entire Parker line. How adorable is this one and it’s under $20. Tell me how fabulous this Free People top is right?
There you have it. My staples that are currently being moved to the front of my closet. I am so ready for the switch over from the Summer. I have been sweating it out down here in FL transitioning it over but I am excited for the change in scenery this weekend when we shoot over to Denver. I hope everyone is having a fabulous week and tell me what your favorite Fall staples are in your closet currently?

Such a good roundup! I agree, great flats are worth the investment in my mind! Cheap ones always end up causing my feet so much pain!

Love all of your picks!! I also love that red floral dress on you. Right before we left for our trip last month it did seem like the universe was piling on things. Its like umm I’m trying to get some things done here haha. I am sure that you will though!! :-) Enjoy the rest of your week and looking forward to hearing about your trip too! :-)

Good luck with all the packing! It is the worst packing for weather like that, especially when you aren’t having it! I love all your picks as usual. I love that last dress so much but just cannot get behind that price point, I am going to find something similar hopefully! I had no idea Nordstrom had j crew stuff! Free shipping, yay!

I really do love that off the shoulder top on you! I’m clicking your link for the skinnies because I need a new pair (ummm, I think I do – it depends on if it ever isn’t 100 degrees here!) for the winter. Crossing my fingers on that inseam length and I’ll purchase! I hate it when the butt bags out on my jeans.
