How to Cope with Everyone Else’s New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Years!  I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday and you are recovering well.  So this is my Public Service Announcement.  Everyone has a New Year’s Resolution and for majority of Americans it is to get back into shape.  I applaud this!  I am the first person when someone is interested in Barre the next thing out of my mouth “when do you want to go I’ll take you to you first class!”  We all know how it is right?  Taking a class or going to the gym by yourself is super daunting and scary!  I remember when I took my first body pump class at the Lifestyles in Hyde Park aka the Happy Hour social club.  I didn’t know you had to arrive 15 minutes early and then the minute the doors opened everyone rushed the equipment staking out their spot, grabbing their bars, weights and tubes.  I was literally run over and then someone asked me to move because I was in “their spot”.  I never wanted to go back until my sweet former roommate took me with her the next time and gave me the low down on the set up process.  Or your first spin class when you had no idea how to set up your bike.  Working out can be super intimidating!  So here is my New Years Resolution that I would like to pass onto you.  Be friendly and helpful to the newbies at the gym/your workout class etc.

Trust I know what it is like when you are moseying on over to your typical 5:45pm class and the parking lot is completely full and then you see a spot….oh finally!  Then this happens….

Then you get inside and you see a girl in full makeup talking on her cellphone doing this…

via tumblr
You try your best not to exchange this look to your girlfriends or be lead to do this….

Then because you are running late since you couldn’t find parking, you walk into the class and see someone has set up in your spot which has the perfect view of the mirror, let’s you scope out the weight room and just out of the line of the instructors vision so she can’t call you out.

Then there is that person who is so off with their timing they actually get you off your count.

Oh my how funny and creepy are those poodles doing Jazzercise?  So here is my response to all of this. I was once that newbie too!  Take the time to smile or ask someone if they need help setting up their equipment.  I also try to compliment one or two people after every class and let them know how hard they worked or if they had great form in a particular exercise.  Give it a try!  You might make someones day and help them stay with their resolutions to keep healthy this New Year.  Maybe you might pick up a new gym workout buddy.  I know when I have to meet someone at a class it forces me to have accountability and I am more likely to power on and make that class after work.

Plus I think we all know what it feels like when everyone else is seemingly mastering a hard pose in Pilates and you feel like this.
via tumblr
Here is one more because I think it is hilarious.

What are your goals for next year?  I have a goal of introducing Barre classes to five new people!  Who wants to come with me?  I’ll take you to your first class!  I also am vowing to not eat these everyday!  I think I have a problem!  I shouldn’t have gone to Target after Christmas!  Everything was 30% off!
I hope you take a little piece of this and spread some good workout vibes into the air!  Cheers!

This is too funny and too true!! Going to the gym or taking a class for the first time is intimidating! But, so worth it after you are done! Yes, I am planning to throw out all our candy and sweets from the house today too! xoxo, Lindsay

I just love that it makes you have a built in gym buddy! We take screen shots of the classes we sign up for and email them out to see what classes everyone is going to.

Girl I am straight up dying from laughter over here…but it’s so true!! You have to be nice to people in the gym…especially because you never know when it will be your first time in a new class again!! Speaking of Barre…Giselle Bunchen (or however you spell her name -tom bradys wife lol) went to the pure barre in boston today for a class!!

I had to hid them from myself…or at least get them out of my direct line of vision. The peppermint m&ms are like straight crack
