How To Start Getting Bathing Suit Season Ready

After yesterday’s post…I think you know what picture I am referring to.  It just seemed appropriate to follow up with this.  Alright the time is rapidly approaching and I think you know what I’m talking about (well like you should if you read the title) but in case you didn’t, bathing suit season my friends bathing suit season. Living in Florida the potential for bathing suit weather is about 10 months out of the year.  I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t miss being up North and packing on those layers during the winter along with some pounds to help “keep me warmer”.

I am all about the gradual work up till it’s time to be bathing suit ready.  Nothing like the people who are going on a cruise in 4 days……it’s probably not going to happen.  So I complied a fun list for you in case you wanted to start thinking about getting ready.  Then I will motivate you at the end with some bathing suits that I have my eye on for this upcoming season.

No.1  Start Chugging That Water
I mean it.  Get a water bottle or my newest obsession is a water cup with a straw.  First thing you do when you wake up is drink a full one.  One down.  This is the oneI currently tote around.  Naturally since I only seem to shop via Amazon Prime now.  It is 24 oz and much easier to suck down than the cheap well drinks from those prior younger college years.
We all know the benefits of water right?  Here are the ones I want to highlight.
-Helps flush out basically everything including fat and toxins.
-Majority of times when you think you’re hungry you are actually thirsty.
-Your skin will thank you.
-If you’re drinking water you don’t have time to be filling up on other forms of liquid calories.  Which brings me to my next point.
No. 2 Don’t Drink Your Calories
I am not a calorie counter at all.  I govern more by the philosophy of portion control.  However I know the majority of you know this but here is a quick refresher.  This is on a very basic level.  It is not this completely black and white but it gives you a rough estimate.

If that didn’t sink in this definitely will.
We do a lot of mindless calorie consuming throughout the day.  The biggest offender is serving sizes of calorie drinks.  Majority of serving sizes are 8oz and most packaging is sometimes 2-3 times that.  Looking at labels is so important.  Finally they have started putting serving size vs the entire content size on most products. Not drinking calories is one of the best ways to kickstart this bathing suit ready season.
No. 3. Rev Up The Cardio & Ab Work
Get those workouts in.  I am loving this one right now.  Scissor Crunches and Burpees….yeah that should do it.  This is the time I start adding a few early morning workouts.
No. 4 Get The Junk Out of Your House
If it’s there you’ll eat it.  Out of sight out of mind.  Tell that to these.
No. 5  Cut Out the Alcohol
Back to that original idea of not drinking extra calories.  Plus you know how I feel about red wine.  It requires its friends to come along Cheese & Crackers.  Now Cheese & Crackers aren’t exactly low calorie especially when you eat almost an entire wheel of cheese and box of Wheat Thins in one sitting.
No. 6 Try One Meatless Day
Try it.  These are the days I load up of fresh salads, veggies, hummus, beans and quinoa.
No. 7 Eat Top Heavy
Try stacking your meals in reverse. Hearty breakfast with small high protein snacks in the late morning.  Lunch with salad and complex carbs and a light dinner.  Your body will be processing the calories throughout the day and you’ll sleep without such a full calorie laden stomach from a large dinner.
No. 8 Cut Back on the Sugar & Processed Foods
We are talking about bathing suits again remember.  #4 up above I’m talking about you.  Now is the time to really make that commitment of cutting the Fast Food out of your diet for good.  If you can’t do it by just by reading this…..look at this picture.  Burgers and Fries left out for years.  They haven’t molded or even shrunk.  They look exactly the same.  That cutoff portion says 4/22/2010.
No. 9 Make 3 Small Substitutions Everyday
Instead of the soda go with water.  Skip the cheese on your sandwich.  Don’t eat the bread that comes with your Panera lunch.  Pass on the side of chips.  Dressing on the side.  All these little things throughout the day really add up in the end!
No. 10 Go Bathing Suit Shopping
Nothing is more motivating than standing underneath the fluorescent lights in a Target dressing room am I right? Here are a few I’ve had my eye on!
This little neon and tribal one
Fringe helps you look like you’re bringing a little more to the table upstairs if you know what I mean. I could use some help in that department.
Red and leopard with a strap back….getting hot over here!
If I didn’t have to worry about tan lines.
Finally love the little cut out on the front detail.
These are my tips for getting ready!  What are some of yours??  Let me know how you are starting to prepare.  xoxoxo

  1. Such a great post! Girl you need to come over here and be my personal trainer and keep me from giving in to all the bad things I indulge in. I’ve been trying so hard to eat better but the occasional Reese cup or KitKat sneaks in… and the wine. Ugh, really need to cut that out because you’re totally right, wine is best with cheese and crackers! I’m going to try going meatless one day a week now! :)

  2. Great tips! I feel like even I can master most of those- I try to drink a lot of water, but I never thought of drinking it as soon as I wake up! I’ll be looking for one of these cups tomorrow!

Gah! Love those suits! And totally agree with not drinking your calories – I learned that the hard way!

Adorable suits and excellently practical tips. I am with you on water being #1 on the list – it’s a game changer when you finally realize you’re not hungry – just thirsty! I drink my calories if they come in protein smoothie form :)

  5. P!nky says:

Great post, with great tips lady! Thanks for sharing! I need to rev it back up for sure.

  6. Ahhhhh swim suit season always sneaks up on me. Don’t remind me! Trying on swim suits is just the worse thing ever! EVER!

  7. Great tips as usual!!! I think burpees are the worst (best) invention ever!! I am really good about not snacking when I’m at work – but when I get home it’s like I’m a different person – goldfish (yes please) slice of cheese (don’t mind if I do) oh Milano cookies to go with that (DONE!) I need help lol!

  8. Savanna says:

Great tips! I’m always working on drinking more water!! Love that coral colored bathing suit… The top is amazing!!

  9. Love all the tips! I’m always chugging water! The polka dot bikini is so cute!!

  10. Tracey says:

These are great tips! I’ve implemented a lot of these already, getting ready for my wedding in 2 months!

  11. These are great! My biggest offender is junk in the house. If it’s available to me it’s so hard for me to not eat it! I end throwing stuff away even if it isn’t empty just because I know I don’t need it!

  12. Love this! Thanks for getting us motivated!

  13. such great tips!! I REALLY need to get it together! here’s hoping!

  14. I really need to get on this. Ugh. Stupid tempting calories and carbs…

  15. Char-lit says:

Awesome tips! I am all about the calm, rational trade-offs like these, not the crazed calorie-depriving crash diets. This is a much more realistic way to get ready for bikini season without feeling like a deprived maniac and going overboard in the end!

  16. Great tips! I am definitely someone who does not buy sweets and junk food for the house. Not saying I never eat it, I just do in moderation and don’t keep it at home. Following the 80/20 rule, drinking tons of water and bootcamp are what works for me!

  17. Carly says:

You don’t know how much I needed this post! I was *kind of* doing well with eating better and exercising and then it all went downhill and I just started using myfitnesspal again today! I’m in need of some new water bottles so I’m definitely going to look into those– they make the biggest difference in how much water I drink!

  18. Awesome tips. YES to wine’s friends. Damn them.

  19. Damn. Can’t I just wear a wetsuit? ;P

  20. Emily says:

i’ve been using that tone it up ab routine like crazy lately! love it.

  21. good tips! i hate coffee and all of my friends tell me i should try one of the sugary drinks…eh. no. thank you. id rather not waste the $$ and drink all those calories. i’d rather EAT my calories! ;) i’ve been snaking on a lot of fruit and carrots these days :) bring on warm weather and swimsuits! xo jillian – cornflake dreams

  22. These are all great tips and good reminders! I need to do better with water. I like the tip about chugging one down first thing when you get up! Thank God I never got hooked on Starbucks… I can’t justify the $$$ let alone the calories. A chick fil a biscuit is 440 calories and waaaaay better than a latte. I can live with one a month!

  23. True, true and more true – and helpful – tips that I need to *remember* ha.

  24. I’ve been trying to do most of these things. I already drink mostly water & black coffee in the morning, so alcohol is really my only calorie-filled liquid. And I amazed myself by resisting purchasing the Reese’s Eggs that are my demise. I will eat the entire bag in two days if they’re in my house. It’s so sad.

  25. Alexa says:

Those sugary drinks are the things that are the worst. Great tips!

  26. brooke lyn says:

great tips! at the end of the day it all comes back to eating (and drinking) clean and hard work at the gym!

  27. Kayla MKOY says:

All of these tips are so true!!! I love it. I’m doing most of these already, but could always improve! I drink so much water all the time, I feel like Im constantly peeing!!

  28. Thanks for all of the reminders! Looks like we will just be drinking wine, minus the cheese! Maybe if we put our bathing suit’s on, it will remind us not to eat bad. lol. ; )

  29. Since I’m an unofficial alcoholic, sometimes the cutting alcohol part can be hard for me. But let me tell you what, before the last wedding I was in, because I knew there would be a lot of pictures taken, I didn’t drink for a week or two leading up to it, and I was GORGEOUS in those pictures. That trick really works!

  30. Uh huh, and what did you eat today? JK! Seriously though, thanks for driving home the point about the calories and LBS.

  31. Joey says:

Drinking water changed my life. I used to ONLY drink soda (and I’m not talking diet soda–we’re talking full fat full sugar). While those things never caught up to my body shape–they totally messed with my insides. I was having chronic kidney infections. Not BLADDER infections, KIDNEY infections. Hospital stays and all. During my last bout–I was in a new town with a new doctor. She sat me down and was like “I need you to be honest with me–because you’re going to die” and asked me how much water I was drinking. I never. ever. drank. water. Now it’s all I drink. I haven’t had a kidney infection since AND my skin is much happier! Not to mention I feel a lot better! I also do one (or two or three or or or) meatless days. I don’t actually mean to do it–I just don’t love meat all that much. Great tips, friend!

  32. Love LOVE this post! As you know, I’m heading to Vegas in four short weeks. While I finally decided to invest in a personal trainer 2 x times a week to kick my ass in gear (literally) I am failing in the kitchen. Not only do I regularly skip breakfast but when I do make time for it..it’s usually in the form of a Venti Vanilla Latte. BAD BAD!

This post is going to be a serious reminder for not slaking in the next month!

    xo, jen

  33. Needed this! Wahoo thanks doll!

  34. Vicki says:

Great post!! I’m headed down to Florida at the end of May and I’d really like to get bathing suit ready!

  35. Allyssa says:

Starbucks is definitely the one thing that totally gets me. I’d probably be 10 pounds lighter if it wasn’t for all the coffee I drink. I’m getting better, though! :)

  36. Ha this post is so needed in my life right now! I might start and end with bathing suit shopping. Start to scare myself into a diet and end to reward my healthy behavior!

  37. I love that last suit. Does it have a little picaboo slit under the boob or am I seeing things. Cute! I needed this post. And I need to learn to do barre in the morning, its just soo hard. You are motivating me, please don’t stop ;)

  38. Stacy G says:

Great tips! I swear cheese is my biggest downfall… and it is impossible for me to have an appropriate portion size of wheat thins haha they are so addicting. Love the suits!

  39. my tip for getting ready for bathing suit season, buy a cover-up just in case ;-) kidding

  44. Kristen says:
