My husband Mark doesn’t really have many opinions when it comes to my fashion choices. As long as I can be ready on time, he’s well trained with the “wow babe you look great!!” when I walk out of the room within my allotted hour of shower, dressed and out the door. However, the two pieces of clothes I get any sarcastic remarks about are rompers and jumpsuits. He detests them and with a quick polling of my guy acquaintances it seems to be the general consensus that men hate rompers.
Mark’s response to rompers
“I think your niece Avery (who is six) has an outfit that looks pretty similar to that”
My friend Kevin
“Rompers are awful, they are a rubix cube to get off and they aren’t flattering for a women’s body…..I assume they are all made by Oshkosh Bigosh”
Why women (and myself) personally love them. In my opinion it’s so much easier to throw on one piece and you are out the door. I don’t have to coordinate a top to a bottom and they are a great answer to the soaring Summer temps. They are also generally very affordable. It’s rare to find a romper ever priced too ridiculous. I think the one thing that is agreed upon by all…..you triple check that bathroom lock out in public. That’s all I’m going to say on that matter ;-)
How I Like to Style Rompers
My three suggestions for styling is to find one that cinches in at at the waist or add a skinny belt to give the silhouette some definition in at the waistline. Otherwise, they can be a bit shapeless and not form flattering. I prefer to wear mine with a shoe that has some height. That helps me feel like I’m not my 6 year old niece and gives your legs that mile long look. Last, I usually offset the rompers with an oversized bag. I like outfits with balance and feel that itsy bitsy outfits sometimes benefit from a larger accessory.

Haha I love both of the guys answers! I love rompers though. They’re so comfortable and make getting dressed a breeze!

Those responses were hilarious. When I worked at Evereve I found that men hated jumpsuits too. I would love to get a romper but I am worried about being age appropriate. I love yours and how you styled it too. :-)

HA! That is so true–they usually don’t like them. I like them, minus the stripping down to pee thing. I love yours and your tips for styling!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
It’s funny because I’m not really a fan of them either! But that one looks very pretty on you.
Biana says
That’s too funny!! I actually like rompers for the exact reasons you mentioned – no need to find a top and bottom! I really don’t like going to the bathroom in them though! Love the texture of yours! xo, Biana

This post could not be more accurate! My ex-bf used to call my rompers “onsies” b/c they reminded him of baby onsies! LOL
Katie Elizabeth says
My husband hates rompers too but after a few years of wearing them now, he doesn’t even bother to make comments anymore ;) My rompers are easily the pieces in my closet that I’m most excited to get back into here soon!
Sierra says
I love rompers! I agree, they are effortless and perfect for spring and summer. Haha, laughing at your friends comment about all of them being made by Oshkosh Bigosh, men are funny :) Beautifully Candid
Chesson @ Magnolia & Main says
I love the opinions from the guys on rompers! I think they’re great but I’m still in search of one that I really love. They look like they’re so effortless & easy!
Ashley says
Haha, sometimes boys just don’t get fashion- and that’s okay! I love a good romper/jumpsuit and will never give ’em up. :)
You look great here, lady! That romper is gorgeous on you!

My husband is the same way about fur vests and jeans in boots, not the biggest fan but who cares, haha. I’ve yet to really enjoy rompers as a trend, I think too many women wear ones that are scandalously short. When it’s styled well it’s an amazing piece, but if not I don’t think it’s very flattering.

I was going to say immediately, I’m sure it gives them the weirds thinking their date is dressed like a little girl – they see those as little girl where we just see CUTE.
I dont care for them on me because with a 44 year old bladder – I aint got time to mess with them when I gotta pee :) haha
Missy@My Shitty Kitchen says
I think I have told you my ex’s comments on them, it cracks me up how much they hate them! What size are you wearing in this one, love that price point for bb dakota and it is so cute. Not like it will help me find a date though ;) Loving this look and I cannot wait to copy it!
Jessica Spivey says
My husband actually loves rompers on me… I dislike the work to go to the restroom! :)

“Rubix cube.” hahahahaha men and their minds, I swear! Joshua also thinks rompers are pretty “meh.” I just dismiss his remarks with the whole Men don’t “get” fashion theory. Rompers tend to be pretty Goldy Locks on me, as I can rarely seem to find one that’s just right. I have three that I love and really want to add more to the mix! They are perfect for weekends! But yeah… the naked bathroom thing….
Pamela @ Sequins & Sea Breezes says
LOL yup, I’ve heard guys say they hate rompers because it looks too much like a onesie a kid would wear. But I’m with you, SO much easier to just throw on and go out the door and you don’t have to worry about it getting kicked up in the wind like you would a dress! SO cute! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

Too funny! You look beautiful, as always!

I used to love rompers, but eventually the bathroom situation has led me to stick with dresses or separates. Still love the look of them, though! And it is too funny, because I have never found a guy that likes them either!
Evelina says
Hahaha it’s so funny that men hate rompers! I have never worn one because the whole bathroom thing perplexes me. Is the only option to take the whole thing off??
Xo, Evelina @ Fortunate House
Kate @ Green Fashionista says
Haha I’ve never heard a guy say they like rompers, and I’ve never been the biggest fan of them either but they are starting to grow on me especially the ones that are more fitted like this one you’re wearing. I’m just more of a sundress girl in the warmer months for an easy one-piece. And lol at triple checking the bathroom lock in public!

You look so killer in this romper, girlfriend! I have a love/hate relationship with them. I have a couple in my closet, but whenever I go to wear one, I chicken out because I feel like I don’t have the right legs/look for it. You know?
Kasie Chelanne says
You’re totally right about the male perspective on rompers…I don’t get it, they’re so comfortable and easy to wear! Great tips…heels and a defined waist really do help a romper look more grown up. Key!
Lauren says
Hah – that’s so funny! I don’t own very many rompers but now I feel compelled to ask my husband how he feels about them. I think of old hollywood 1940’s era glamour when I think of rompers (especially one like yours) and less 6 year old niece. ;)

Haha boys!!!! They always have a comment for every, right???? I personally cant pull off rompers but I think they look totally cute on other people and you are so rocking that one!
Meg Taylor says
Oh my gosh, this post is so true, but even more (in my case) for maxi dresses. My husband says they’re not flattering on anyone, but come on, they’re SO COMFORTABLE. Also, I dare to disagree on the flattering part with your romper, that one you have on is great – plus the price isn’t too bad either ;)

Gina says
Ha! Had to laugh at your guy comments. I have heard this before too…. however my husband claims he likes them when I wear them?! He could be lying…
Jenn says
What’s not to love about this romper? I agree that you have to find the right ones that work for your body, but I think this one looks great on you!
Kristina says
Haha I told Ryan the title of this post and he was like… YEP!! He’s not the biggest fan but what do guys know, right?? Love this one on you!
xo, Kristina

Hahaha, great post! But I do love a good romper! You look great in this and I love your styling tips! xo, Champagne&Suburbs
kristen says
that romper is flipping adorable. but seriously, men don’t know anything ;) KC likes me best in jeans and a tshirt, and well, that’s just not very cute haha.
Meg says
I love a romper. I know my husband does not like them either but I think they are so cute. I totally agree that they are so much easier than matching a top to a bottom. I won’t stop wearing them :)

My hubby hates them too and actually aske me when one of my girlfriends was wearing one, “What exactly is that that xxx is wearing?”
I don’t feel like I can pull them off but love this one on you.
Lindsay says
How did I miss this post before?! I was basically crying laughing at the men’s responses, because I am so certain I have heard the exact same thing multiple times. I love rompers and just wish someone would make some that have snap closures for easier use in the bathroom!

This post is too funny and oh so true! Love this – way too good!
